Apologies if this information is found in another thread. I spent the better part of two hours searching these forums and Google but have yet to find the exact information that I need.

I purchased my laptop a bit over two years ago and have yet to update the BIOS or the KBC/EC Firmware. And while I had no issues with the old BIOS, recently while searching how to control the fan speeds I came across the Fn+F2 command to set the fan speeds to max, which is highly appealing.

However, Fn+F2 does not work (All other Fn+F# do). From what I have read, updating the BIOS and/or KBC/EC Firmware would enable this command.

My current version numbers from the start up screen are:

    BIOS Version 1.00
    KBC/EC Firmware 1.00.01
I also have an Elantech touch pad (This information seemed important in other threads)

I am currently using Windows XP 32-bit.

So I have a few questions:

1.) Will updating my BIOS and/or KBC/EC Firmware give me the Fn+F2 Fan Speed control?

2.) What is the difference between the BIOS and KBC/EC Firmware? Can you update one without the other? I know a bad BIOS update can pretty much kill your computer, but could a bad KBC/EC Firmware kill it as well?

3.) Do you have to install BIOS updates in order? Ex. I have BIOS version 1.00. If 1.00.1, 1.00.2, and 1.00.3 are available. Do I have to install each one separately in that order, or could I jump straight to the latest one?

4.) If it is possible to skip to the latest version, what is it? My searching ended me up with:

    http://www.clevo.com.tw/en/e-services/esupport/MarketDLOut.asp?model=M57xU&go=GO&type=BIOS

And while I think it would be the 1.00.06 version link, but with the possibility of destroying my computer, picking a definite one from that list is a bit daunting to just go off chance.

    Any help is appreciated.

Welcome to the NBR forums. :)

if you want the Fan Toggle feature you will need to update your BIOS.

no, you do not update BIOS's in order.... by updating the latest one, it incorporates the previous ones fixes in it as well.

just update to the latest BIOS/firmware and you should be fine.

    not hard to do.

Make sure to get the correct BIOS for your make of touchpad.

The fan toggle is actually in the kbc/ec firmware (or H8 firmware) so update that first, then the BIOS.

the Fn+f2 thing drove me nuts for almost 2 years also man... but, its not a bios update you need.

    try Fn + 1 instead.

Fn+F2 is for the previous generation of Clevo notebooks:
    - M570A
    - M570U
    - D900T
    - D900K

Although.... I have seen a few instances where a vendor would have a different EC/KBC fan firmware to make it Fn+1 (this is very rare)
