So after plenty of money and effort replacing piece after piece in my Clevo M570U, the hinge has now broken. the Aluminum compound used for it swelled and has now broken clear in half at the back left.
After bringing it to a Hardware specialist in hopes that he could replace it after being unable to fix it myself, he assured me that without a replacement piece the hinge was to remain broken.
So my question is:
Can I replace this hinge (and where can I find the piece?)
Or can I buy an entirely new chassis without the guts for a M570U?
Dying here,
Geoff

http://www.rjtech.com/ here is where you can buy the shell though probably way too expensive.
When did you buy your notebook? Is it still under warrenty?
1) Negotiate with company you bought it from
2) if not, just live with it if possible ... use some glueshuandoan likes this. -
you can also contact Eurocom for parts.
-
No its warranty expired two months ago. As for glue, glue wont work as the hinge itself is stuck in place and no longer turns. It needs to be mobile though so I needs to be able to open and close.
RJTech seems to only have the M570RU, im not sure if that chassis will fit my old parts.

I think your old parts should fit except maybe memory. now you can have two graphic card and sell your broken shell on ebay ...

ok to be more serious can you post a picture of your broken hinge here? Maybe me or someone else can figure out a way to fix it.
-
The aforementioned Hardware specialist is still working on a temporary fix as it broke two days ago and I start classes again Thursday. So as soon as I get it back from him (today or tomorrow morning) I will post images.
Thank you for the input thus far,

cool, maybe I can CAD you a part if you really need it...

Is this Normal ... for a CLEVO to fall apart like this!?!?
@ aeioe ... you weren't rough or anything on the laptop ... right!?!?

I've dropped my M37EW on its screen twice. It just folded shut. Probably not great for the clips but those are still holding. It's very loose though.
-
How friggin' weird is that? I logged in to this site for the first time in months because my 57U(M570U) hinge is broken and I can't find a replacement. Lo and behold, right on the first page is the same issue. Only problem is mine is worse.
Not only is my left hinge broken (where the screw threads in is snapped in half), but due to this problem, it has also pinched my LCD cable rendering my screen to a lack of Black color in photos, backrounds, etc.
My local guy called Clevo in China and they told him they don't sell parts, not even to a repair shop.
I recall at some point a while back talking to a guy in the USA with Clevo/Sager. Anyone know a US phone number?
How is it that the online parts places sell hinges for every other Clevo, but not this one?
I am about ready to smash it into a million pieces.
And BTW, No, it is not under warranty at least I don't think (1 1/2-2yrs old or so), but it was purchased from that ******* at Flawless.
Anyone point me in the right direction? My local guy has never even seen a Clevo, but at least he tried. -

Hopefully my Sager 8660 won't have the same problem... but anyway what you described to me sounds like you can fix it locally with a skilled technician. If you really need to change parts maybe try to make one yourself? CAD it and find a company to manufacture the part for you, probably under 200 bucks, but the color won't match exactly ...

Hope that is what you were asking for!

So here's the scoop:
Turns out the Hinge inside the M570U reaches all the way up the side inside the screen to the top screw. This is a ridiculous build idea and causes it to be very thin and flimsy. It's held in by one screw at the top as well. The hardware guy I brought it to was able to relieve a little tension on the cable and temporarily screw the hinge back together with a long steel screw, but as he told me it wont hold that long without a replacement hinge, and he is currently looking for one.
I was always so happy with this computer but now that I've seen how flimsy and horribly built the case is, I won't be buying anything that resembles this chassis ever again. The hinges are two small in the first place and use mod metal instead of pure aluminum.
Temporarily repaired,
Geoff
P.S. For now I've ordered an XPS M1730 and I'm waiting for that beast to arrive. In the meantime, this will have to become a desktop replacement permanently. -
omg m15x!!!
Just jokes!!

You can always make it work if you don't care about how pretty it is ...

the hinge is held down to the main notebook by 2 screws. then it travels up the sides of the lcd display and is held on by 4 screws not one. the screen sits in them and the 4 screws go into the sides of the lcd. then there are also 2 additional screws one at the top and one at the bottom that go through the inside lcd trim bezel and the metal on the hinge bracket and then screw into the main top lid. i personally have opened up and worked on these and i dont see how the hinge simply fell apart they are pretty sturdy.
also last time i checked i was told i could get just the replacement hinges.. this was last year when i bought a new lid (for paint) and i asked just in case they got messed up and they told me sure we can sell those.. so im not sure why they would now not sell them -
Eurocom sells all the parts for the M570U on their website. I think, because of this, it is reasonable to expect that they could sell you the shell to have it fixed. It may cost quite a bit, but it will be cheaper than buying a new computer. Eurocom is great for giving you deals if you're not satisfied with their pricing.

Did it happen to look something like this...

This happened to my M570U and it was replaced under warranty... should hopefully be arriving back with me tomorrow -

Now I just have to figure out how to replace them as I don't trust the dimwits at the local PC shop. -
when you get the part pm me ill walk you through it. its very easy ive done it numerous times.

same issue here, could anyone post any gotchas in the disassembly ?
My screen keeps going out - external monitor works fine, I replaced a bad inverter (fried - literally) and after working for a couple of days the screen went black again - in and out sporadically (at the most frustrating times of course).
then the left hinge just snaps.
I'm trying replacing the cable first before i assume the mobo or gpu are bad since nothing else seems to be malfunctioning.
I am having a little trouble getting the unit completely taken apart, there's one last clip or screw near the rear center adjacent to the battery housing that has me stumped. I can't see anything keeping it together but there's definitely something there... any hints?
It's been an amazing machine for the last year and a half or so- bought from widowpc, sting 517d, core 2 duo, 512 2500m gpu, coax, remote, wuxga - the screen is a little on the dim side for me though. -
try the link in my sig...

I too have what appears to be a snapped right hinge after 3 years of no problems! I have the Sager NP5760 (Clevo M570U) and I am very interested in a service manual for this and do not see it in your list.
(I am currently waiting for a response to an email to Sager about purchasing replacement hinges.)
Update: 2 hinges successfully ordered from Sager, prompt response. -
M57xU is in the list, but here it is anyway.
PM's are disabled until you have made at least 5(?) posts. -
(and I figured the PM issue was something like that, thanks for the tip there too) -
With the clevo model names, the 3rd digit refers to the colour or other cosmetic change, so is usually replaced by a small x, or sometimes omitted entirely. For example the M570RU had orange trim and the M571RU had silver trim but the were both exactly the same hardware, hence M57xRU or M57RU.

I got same problem here.....
2 Hinge have broken within 2 months.... great....
1 back chassis as well.....
front and back LCD chassis.....
a disaster..... But I still love my M570-U.... -
Which hinge is broken? Left or Right? My left one broke a while back but I had to order a left and a right so I've gone one sitting in a drawer.
-
-
Replacing the hinge should be pretty easy, use the service manual in my sig to help with it.
-
pm me my hinge is actually for a m570ru
-
The M570U and RU both use the same hinges

and that is what my hinge looks like btw... was just making sure if thats what i would be repairing -
Yup, that's the hinge assembly all right.
PM's get activated after 5-10 posts (never can remember the exact number...)
Also, click on jaredmccoy's name and it'll give you his email. -
all right cool well for the sake of getting more post out there. anyone have a link or could please give a fairly discriptive step by step for assembly if i do in fact buy it
-
-
i have the service manual, ive just never done anything like this before unless changing ram counts lol. the manual shows how to take apart the computer but not the LCD nor does it show how the rod fits into the base
-
I had never done it and it's not too hard. WIth the LCd you have to take off the rubber pads around the screen. 4 on top and 3 on bottom. Each one has a screw under it that you remove. Then you gently and slowly pull off the black plastic around it. I used a razor blade to pry a corner off and worked from there.
As for the hinge I just looked at how the other hinge was and copied it. To attach to the base there are screws from underneath and from behind.
Get your hinge attached to the lcd and then lift up just enough to be able to slide the base into the body of the laptop. -

Here is the thread when it happened to me. The last post has a link to the manual. I think I found a general how to on youtube as well. It just wasn't sager specific. -
I don't want to start a new thread for the same issue so I'll revive this one. I also have a broken hinge but it seems to be broken in a different spot than everyone else's. On the right hinge, the entire swivel attachment seems to be severed, not pulled out from the base like other people's pics. I should probably post a picture to clarify.
-
And also to the other person who posted the manual.
I was trying to find a left hinge for my Mom's M570U, could not find any on websites in US for under $90, so I called Sager at 626-964-8682. For $30 +$18 or so for 3 day Fedex, I get both left hinge and right hinge. Now I can see if I get a decent labor quote or I'll likely just do it myself. Thanks to all who contributed to this thread.
