that is a beast of a system!
I love my M570U from flawless. The build quality on these notebooks is rock solid. -
Hey I have a question for those who mod their Clevo M570U. I got 2 GB of OCZ DDR2-667 and working with video, I'm thinking I would like to have 3 GB. Putting warranty issues aside, just talking the "how to's," what would I have to do to put another stick of Ram in there? And can I get a pic of what it looks like? Thanks!
-
Here is a LINK to a article with images of the M570U. There is a good shot of the RAM modules.
-
Mick COMPLIMENTS for your choice!
I am really glad that you could find in our Brian @ Flawless your best deal.
Best!

Fantastic choice, and that's the most powerful M570U I have seen anyone buy. 3GB of RAM and a Core 2 Duo T7600 - expensive stuff.
It's a good price though, so congrats on getting a good deal and getting an even better laptop. -
wow, nice rig.... you opted to get some things that most dont get:
- custom paint job
- more than 2gigs of RAM
- 2nd harddrive (w/ RAID)
The only thing that I would suggest before its too late, and if you can afford it, try and max out the memory at 4 gigs (2 x 2048mb DDR2) because the memory will get dual channeled with 2 of the same sticks (that means more performance) and you would not have to worry about memory upgrades in the future (since Windows Vista will give full support to 4 gigs of RAM while current Windows XP only sees 3 gigs).
Other than that, this is going to be a customized beast.
Congrats.

Ouch! The price for that last 1GB!
-
but later on your are going have to dump a 1gig stick to be able to stick in another 2gig to get a total of 4gig.
You system is still going to scream, so the extra 1 gig wont really make a difference but its just "piece of mind" to future-proof.... and Windows Vista. -
I was thinking about that exact setup except for a few minor differences, but how did you do the 3gb of ram? I don't see it on the flawless website.
-
You should call to get any customizations that you dont see on the site... and to get a better deal.
-
Frak me that was a fast response. I am gonna be emailing Brian in a few, btw.
Can I just order 1 gig from flawless and get a 2 gig stick from newegg or somewhere for cheaper? Is this laptop user upgradable in terms of ram? -
-
I am sticking with 2gigs. 3 was too expensive and not worth it right now. It will be needed on my next lappy in a year or two though.
-
Gophn got it right w/ Vista being the ram hog that it is I want keep 'er screaming for awhile to come, even though I plan to keep with WIN XP at least until the SP2 is out on Vista.
But right now there isn't any 200 pin DIMM 2gb modules are there?
BTW MickDangerous Killer's got his latest review on his M570U coming out tomorrow with http://www.techwarelabs.com/ -

http://shop.kingston.com/PartsInfo.asp?ktcpartno=KVR667D2S5/2G
for a whopping $640... the margin on that is about $100
So a stick of 2gig DDR2 for notebooks will run about $550-650.... yikes!!!
Its worth as much as the high-end videocard (7950 GTX) within the notebook... I know, I am still considering if I should upgrade from my 7800 GTX.
These stick are also available through Corsair, OCZ, Mushkin, and Crucial. It will take a month or so before these are going to be more available when Vista gets released and people find that its a RAM hogger.
Currently a number of resellers have the 4gig (2 x 2gig) option for the Clevo M570U... such as
http://secure.hypersonic-pc.com/scripts/custom_sys.aspx?sysid=Aviator_CX7
Mainly if a customer wants it, any reseller should be able to order the memory for them, they just need call the reseller to do this customization. -
OK Chaz and Gophn I froogled it. And all I have to say is
"Holy mother of pearls!" Talk about a swift kick in the stones, no wonder nobody puts it out on the front shelf. Those 2GB lappy sticks are going for about the same as a bar of gold.
Because of Vista I see memory as the weak link in futer-proofing the system whereas it used to be the slow HD. But I'll wait it out with the rest of you hoping these prices drop. -
I should be ordering that lappy (with a few differences) in a few hours. I keep noticing in the description of this laptop is that it has an Azalia sound system with surround sound capabilities without an eternal decoder. How is that possible? In looking at the pics of the M570U, I only see a line in for headphones and mic? How would the Medusa 5.1 headphones hook in? Am I missing something? (I am used to digital ins/outs and not these three colored cords mess. Thanks
-
on the back of the Clevo M570U there is a audio jack that is for SPDIF connection to surround/home theater system.
Your 5.1 headphones are using analog jacks for:
-front
-back
-center
It will only work with the front jack (2 channels). No notebook really has all of those analog jacks.
UPDATE: read next post, Clevo M570U supports analog surround sound. -
Donald@Paladin44 Retired
The Sager NP5760 has 4 audio ports. Two on the back that Gohpn points out, plus two on the right side at the front. The work like this:
4 Audio ports:
1. Headphone or Front L/R (Left/Right) out
2. Mic-in or Center+Subwoofer out
3. S/PDIF-out or Side Speakers L/R out
4. Line-in or Rear L/R Speakers out -
So 4 four ports has multifunctions. That is a great solution, rather than having to buy a separate external audio adapter.
I guess you would have to use the software that is for the on-board sound card to switch it 5.1 or 7.1, etc..
Pretty cool.
Thanks Donald.

Okay, so not to sound like a total noob or anything but...
With gaming headphones, the kind with 3 colored cords (analog?) those would plug into three of those ports, thus giving the headphones their 5.1? If so then like Gophn just said, no external sound card would be needed with either headphones or external 5.1 speakers then? -
Most 5.1 gaming headphones have the following analog jacks:
- Front Speakers
- Rear Speakers
- Center/Subwoofer
The only problem I see is the Rear speaker port (using the Line-In jack) is the furthest away from the Front (using the Headphone jack) and Center/Subwoofer (using the Microphone jack).
Other than that this is a great way for gamers to play games without disturbing the person next to them. -
Can you show us a photo of this Gaming Headphones with the respective Colored cords and focus to the jacks?
Thx!
By the way i guess no other lappy than Clevo M570U can satisfy your requests in terms of audio output and gaming Machine
Nice Choice! -
Definately the 570U for me. Gonna be ordering it fully loaded in a few hours actually. I just pulled this pic from the review I am reading right now. As a devoted Mac user, I have no idea what all these cords are for, especially the big one. Heres the link for the pic, cause I dont know how to put one in here.
http://www.mvktech.net/content/view/3369/39/1/3/
Its the razor headphone. I am getting a razor mouse i think and thought that the headphones to go with it would be a nice touch. -
Most 5.1 gaming headphones will have these analog jacks:
Some, such as the Razor headphones, has an additional jack for the mic.... which might be a little problem since the Clevo M570U shares that analog port with the Center+Subwoofer function. I guess you can use the mic and disable the center/subwoofer channel.
All good, still an awesome mobile gaming experience. -
Gophn...that's why "i like you"!!
But dont misunderstand me.
I am an happy fiance, with a very nice russian lady as you can see: -
When you say, "2. S/PDIF-out or Rear L/R Speakers out", are you saying I can plug in any L/R 2.1 speakers in there? Or do you mean that it will only work with the REAR L/R speakers of a 5.1 system?
I ask because when I tried to plug in my regular 2.1 speakers into the S/PDIF-out, I got no sound except for maybe some static. -
LOL, good to know you are secure in your heterosexuality.
its all good brotha! i'm just messing with ya... nice pic! -
And i am really GLAD you got your M570U working Great!
You know, soon i ll come to USA and i guess it will be a good idea to choose onde day to meet all of us Clevo M570U owner and meet our Reseller Brian for a good Party!
I guess i am not Off Topic
Clevo M570U from FlawlessComputers.com, am i right? -
I am think its in my 5760 Manual anyways but tagging this post.
I have a Logitech Z-5500 Speakers set in my LR and I use the 3 analog option cables to connect to my 5760 and it sounds great
Can't do it too much as the speakers are connected to my HTPC and my wife don't really like me blasting it with my games lol -
I got my laptop wedensday, and when reading about adding the second hard drive the first thing I noticed was this:

As you see in the picture its pretty straight forward -
LOL. nice pic.
make sure system is off, and unplugged.
its easy, put the 2nd HDD in the enclosure that fits into the optical drive bay, and slide it in. thats it. -
-
yea you setup RAID the same way as you would on a desktop.
USB Floppy is needed for the Windows Setup process, pressing F6 (for SCSI or Third-Party hard drives... RAID) during the initial Windows CD/DVD bootup... then you need to insert floppy with RAID drivers, and then the Windows Setup should be normal after that.
