I noticed something interesting while going through the M570U-A manual that came with my notebook. On the little LED display it has two battery indicators, but as far as I know, this laptop can't have a second battery installed. So what is the second battery indicator used for? Are there other (external?) batteries that can be connected to it? If so, what and where are they? I might be interested in picking one up.

The second battery LED is there, because depending on what graphics card you opted for, the notebook can support a second battery. See the link below for more details:

    http://www.clevo.com.tw/products/M570A.asp

If you scroll down the page, you can see under "Power", that it supports a second 6-cell battery.

Ah, yes. Thanks. Scrolling down under options I also saw this as a feature "One changeable 12.7mm(H) 2nd PATA HDD/ 2nd Battery / DVD-ROM / Combo / DVD-Dual Driver". Can the CD drive be replaced with a battery? If so, I haven't seen that mentioned anywhere but the site you pointed out. Where could I find one of these CD drive batteries if they exist?

You migt be able to purchase directly from Clevo, but I imagine that may be expensive. You could possibly inquire at one of the botique brands, that sells these notebooks with a different badge on them. I think Sager is one of them, and also Rock Direct. Although, I don't think they sell this particular model, because of its age. You may want to look at the newer version of this notebook, with the Core Duo, as that uses the same chassis, and probably the same setup that can accomodate the second battery.

you cannot buy anything directly from Clevo. They have not, and will never deal with consumers directly. You must get it from an distributor or reseller of Clevo.

You can probably call RJtech.com and ask if they can add that item to you order.

There seems to be some misunderstanding here. I'm talking about the M570U-A. Is there a CD Drive bay battery for this laptop? I've already got the laptop, I'm just curious about extra batteries.

Thanks for the info Gophn, although I was actually talking about one that might be able to fit into the CD Drive bay and run along side the main battery. Its not even that important really, I'm mostly just curious.

yea i know what you were talking about. the optical bay battery is does not normally get ordered, which is why you dont see the option to choose during the ordered. So you must call or email a Clevo reseller to ask if they can order it for you and how much it would cost.

Ah, I see now. I might do that eventually. Oh, and by the way, thanks for pointing out the Clevo to me. I've gotten it up and running now and its quite fast. Certainly faster than my desktop, and faster than I was expecting. I'm glad I bought it, and I have you to thank for that.

I have a 5710 with the Auxiliary battery. That is the reason I got the 5710 over the 5720. I'm not a gamer and didn't need the graphics card of the 5720. The auxiliary battery ONLY works with the 5710 because the second battery isn't powerfull enough for the GP in the 5720. I get around 4 hours of surfing the web of battery life. I have to remove the DVD drive to use the second battery so I can't take advantage of the extra battery to watch DVD's. I almost forgot I purchased the battery when I purchased my laptop from Discount Laptops. I doubt if you can use the battery with the 5760.

To clear things up about the secondary battery.

From Eurocom website it is possible to order a secondary battery when you buy the system. This one shoud sell for around 125$US. It's a battery a little less powerful than the main battery (6 cell instead of 8) and should give up about 1 hour more usage.

To use the battery just pop out the ODD and fit in the battery. As soon as the battery is plugged in the little battery LED #2 with light up.

With both batteries you should get a big 2.5hrs of usage time.

I should start travelling a lot more with my m570U as soon as january (3 hours bus ride) so i'm eager to see how both batteries are holding up.

So the drive bay battery does work with the M570U? Heh. It seems this drive bay battery is something of an enigma around here. I'll look into that site you posted. Thanks.

I'm using Vista RTM and i set the power setting to Maximum battery when I'm not plugged in and I get 4 hours while surfing the web. On the Discount laptops site when I bought my computer they stated that the auxiliary battery will ONLY work with the 5710 product in the Sager line.

That's right. As far as I know, the M570U with the Go7900GTX (or M570U-A with the Go7800GTX for that matter) is not able to use the modular battery because the modular battery simply cannot supply enough power to the video card.

The only way the modular bay battery will work with the M570U is if it is equipped with the Radeon X1800XT, which none of them are anymore.
