Hi, I was flicking through a laptop magazine and came across an advert for 'Rock laptops'. They are a distributor in the UK that sells Clevo laptops, and of course adds their own branding onto it.

The strange thing, was that the advert was listing a model called 'Xtreme 770', and under the graphics specs, it said 'New NVIDIA GeForce 8700M GT 512MB Graphics'. I'll attach a pic of the specs, I don't have a scanner right now so it's a very poor picture from my mobile camera :p

The image of the laptop on the opposite page looks a lot like the Clevo M570RU, apart from it has white trimmings instead of orange/red. I thought they were releasing the laptop with Nvidia 8800 graphics not 8700?

That notebook is the M570RU. Rock has already got the notebook ready, and should be close to offering it for sale to customers. Some of the newer Santa Rosa range has already been released. The 8700M GT was mentioned on the Internet, and its nVidia's new high end mobile graphics card. The 8800 cards probably haven't been released because nVidia is still developing them for mobile use.

Again, new processor line, new naming scheme. They probably look at it this way. We've seen the 8800M GS in drivers before as a G84, which means it's more like an 8600M. But if it had the 8800 name, it must be powerful, i.e. has a 256-bit or 320-bit interface. So, it's too wimpy to carry the 8800 name, but more powerful than the 8600 name, so 8700 it is.

It's just a name. It's not like if it was called the 8800M GS it would be any better. Hey, as long as it's powerful.
