    Hi all,

Can anyone tell me how to 'stick back' the damn power button in my Clevo M57RU? It's become loose and is 'jangling' in it's socket..afraid it'll eventually get jammed and loose inside the machine and wreck havoc. Looks as though I'm going to have to pull the top off but I don't know which end to start on, or how much I'll have to dismantle the machine..sucks as it looks like it just need to snap back in, but needs force from underneath to do so.

File under: PAIN IN THE and TIME WASTERS ;)

    Thanks,

    Bill

Unfortunately Bill you're going to have to tear apart majority of the machine. You are going to have to tear it down so where you can remove the C Surface and see if you can re-seat the power button. Without seeing it in person it could be a support underneath it that is busted. Before tearing it down you may want to try and purchase the C Panel surface so in case it is broken you can fix it and not have to tear it down again. Going to be a major PITA. :(

Start on the bottom of the machine and take out all the screws and document where everything goes.

    Joy.

Thanks for the info. tho, much appreciated.

Gotta say, for all the power/speed that the clevo M57ru had, it's build quality was absolute shi4.

The service manual is in my sig and will tell you exactly how to dismantle the machine.

Why do you say the build quality is shoddy? My 3 year old M571RU has been dropped off a dinner table and is still going strong now.

Thanks for the sm, very appreciated :)

And I guess I haven't been happy with the build quality because even though I purchased it as a custom music computer from millennium music in the UK, it was anything but that...horribly noisy fans, ground loop hum from hell, plastic case around the screen coming open, screws coming out, keyboard popping from it's chassis, etc. I've mended most of these things, but it's been alot of work that I've never had to do with other brands. Saying that, the 'guts' have been great, and I'm getting another Clevo (from a more reputable place (ADK)) in a week or so, so I haven't given up on them..I've heard that the M57U was a bit of a hit or miss machine- either great, or not.

Thanks again for your link...I'm really not looking forward to this. Anyone in London want an 'easy' £50 to do it? :)

Ohh your looking for a custom digital audio laptop? We can make those too, and probably cheaper than ADK. If you want you can email or PM me for more info.

I'm in basingstoke if you're coming that way anytime soon. I'd be happy to help repair the power button.

I pretty much repair computers for a living anyway.

    Heyya,

Thanks for that, but talked to a computer-builder type friend of mine in Scotland who said he'd switch it out for me next time I'm up there...much appreciated though, nice forum here!
