Hi,
I´m new to this forum.
Got a company notebook of a German reseller, being Clevo´s M720SR.
That one has got a SiS 672 Chipset with embedded VGA (shared memory up to 256MB).
WiFi is a Realtek 8178 802.11g card (miniPCIe-slot) and I want to replace it by a faster 802.11n - card.
There are some adapters in the market like Intel 4965AGN, Atheros 5008 and more.
However the mentioned ones all don´t work in this notebook, in details, upon being inserted, they´re not detected as new hardware, so no drivers can be installed, nothing.
There is, as far as I know and confirmed by the reseller, no BIOS lock. Latest BIOS and EC-Firmware on board (1.00.16 and 1.00.09).
Drivers for the chipset are latest ones as well.
Does someone have a clue about whether this model / chipset generally accepts Draft-N adapters?
A local Clevo-representative as well as the reseller only confirmed, that Intel 4965AGN is not supported by the chipset.

Dear Limousin,
The cards supported for this laptop are the Intel Wifi link 5100 and intel 5300,
The 4965 is not supported on specific machine. -
Thx a lot for your reply.
Didn´t expect to get another Intel adapter recommended where it appeared, that Intel adapters wouldn´t be supported at all.
Is this recommendation is based on live experience..?
Will give it a try as an last attempt before resigning;-)) -
My sincere apologies,
I was referring to the wrong laptop (too many hours online will do that to you)
Your laptop unfortunately does not support the Intel cards,
Get in contact with SiS at www.sis.com and have them point you to card that works with their chipset.
Once again my apologies. -
This is what I´ve already done, actually SiS doesn´t provide support and doesn´t respond to emails, the reseller is unable to give me any substantial support.
Shall I try Broadcom? -
By the way what operating System are you using?
I would get in contact with Realtek http://www.realtek.com.tw and check the N card they have on offer as their g card worked on your pc.
this is their n offering pci e card http://www.realtek.com.tw/products/...id=1&PNid=41&PFid=9&Level=6&Conn=5&ProdID=177 -
Thx for the recommendation.
It seems (however not quite clear), that this one is a normal sized PCIe card, for desktops, not for notebooks (miniPCIe). Anyway, mailed them.
My OS is Windows XP SP3.
Meanwhile found another notebook - MSI EX400, which has a SiS672 Chipset, too, see here and sold with 802.11b/g/n-cards.
In the driver section of this notebook 2 cards are mentioned - MS6890 and AW-NE771 (Azurewave).
The first one is also known as AW-NE766, carrying a Realtek RT2700E chipset, the latter one has Atheros AR5B91 chipset.
So I assume, that these 2 chipsets work with SiS672.
There are not sold often, but there are some offers, mostly AR5B91, which, according to the offers, seems to be compatible to AR9281, and checking for this, most cards are offered as AR9281 over AR5008.
Makes me sceptible, as AR5008 didn´t work, so will check for a "pure" AR5B91 in order to minimize risk..
Will see.... -
I was reffering to the chipset of the PCIe card so that you can locate similar mini pcie card for the notebook.
It seems SiS is a little picky. -
Will try to get either of both cards, and post the result.
Might be helpful to anyone, having the same chipset (and the same prob))
Thx for the help anyway, as the producers and resellers seem to be unable to do that...
