    Clevo M860TU - Fan Firmware/Toggle needed?

After going through the manual, I realized that Clevo may not have implemented the amazing Fan Toggle (to switch all fans to different speeds).

Note: Silent Mode is for power saving (downclocks CPU and GPU).

I really believe that this tiny beast with an 8800M GTX will need as much cooling as possible.

Before there are overheating issues and such when the systems are shipped, Clevo should really give this system a fan toggle... like it did with the M570RU.

This is a gaming notebook... people are going to want as much cooling as possible... so I highly recommend Clevo to help prevent any heating issues by releasing a fan firmware update as soon as possible... hopefully before the system ships out to customers.

We do not want to see a M15x debacle with this amazing system.

Okay people, time for you chime into this discussion to create a larger impact. ;)

PCMW with the diamond package blanket coverage amongst the many things you get is a free laptop cooler.

However, did you not see the size of that fan and the amount of vents the bottom has? Whos to say after the 5973 they didn't reassess their design and made this laptop independent of the need of fan controls.

All I know, I hope I can take this to classes and not have a bloody vacuum cleaner going on whilst on.

Love the Silent mode concept. I hope it can squeeze out a decent amount of battery life with that without completely slaughtering the performance.

the toggle feature was only really needed in the ru because it was constantly reving. The m860tu will still be able to cool at full rate without a toggle. also, see the sizes of the heat syncs and heat wings?! this is a descent cooling system if i have ever seen one.

Clevo gaming notebooks should all have Fan Toggle.

It is extremely useful to be able to manually choose if you want all fans to switch to max... like during long durations of usage or gaming.

    It should be standard IMO.

im sure if everyone starts b****in about it enough, clevo will make a firmware update just like they did with the 570ru or whichever one it was.

Either the design is very good or they didn't mention it.With 1 fan that's not controllable I think it's playing with fire.

    @Gophn,

Can you figure out the differences in the chassis between the M570TU and the M570RU-U, so much that the new motherboard cannot fit at all the later?

Well, I don't know about "b****in" in so many words, but yes, if everyone starts persistently nagging their resellers and Sager, there is a distinct possibility that the "silent mode" function might be redesigned as a full fan control toggle - based on the experience that Eleron911 and other users had with getting satisfaction out of Sager on the redesign of the 5793 fan drivers.

the silent control button should be left on its own i think. as we have seen from AW, these things can be temperamental. instead, have the hotkey funktion somewhere else.

I know our good friends Justin and Paladin44 can transfer the message.
It is a high end Clevo laptop, it deserves fan control!
    At least the Fn+1 feature.
    The d901c has it.
    The 57xRu has it
The 57xTu will probably have it.
    The 86xtu deserves it!

While we're at it, can we also petition for quieter fans! The ones on the M570RU makes too much noise. Tolerable, yes, but too noisy nonetheless.

    Lol,silly banana.
Since the 860tu will have a silent button thing, I guess they should only add the fn+1 function to make it perfect :)
Justin, Donald, you around? could you pass the word onto Sager?

lol the size of the vent looks like a cooler from a Desktop System :D
I completely agree upon the matter of cooling. I hope this notebook is not as loud as a vacuum cleaner - at least not while doing Office or being in Idle state. It's O.K. however if the fans turn on much louder in Gaming, one cannot prevent that.

Does anyone know if fan control software like "speedfan" works on Clevos? It may be possible then to create 2 ways of handling the fans:
    1. Constant fanspeed but low Rounds per Minute (something around 2300) in Office (by that you may need to downclock the CPU/GPU)
    2. Native fan control mode by the system when gaming

I have this in use at my current old ASUS Notebook and it works. Though this is a lot of things to configure and it is somehow annoying that you always need to run different software for clocking + fanspeed + temperature software (not forgetting the time it takes to understand these applications and the risk you might do something wrong or kill the fan or CPU). It still does not work automatically, but now I can control CPU+GPU fan manually and when using a silent fanspeed I downclock my CPU. So it's 3 values to change each time you want to switch from Officework to Gaming.

In that case, I would also prefer already built in Hot-keys to toggle certain fanspeeds manually. That should really be a standard.

Ya I really hope it won't be too loud. The fan on the bottom didn't look that wide in diameter so im still worried.

what does matter though, is the tickness of the fan. the blades are more horrizontally faced when looking at it from the side. when blades of a fan are facing this way more, they can move more of the medium, in this case air, more rapidly at high speeds.
