    Hi all,

I bought Sager NP8660/Clevo M860TU back in August 2008 when it was first released and I'm beginning to have some overheating issues with the notebook. I always knew from the get-go the space to the right of the touchpad would get warm but nothing too unbearable. Nowadays using CPUID monitor I'm reaching idle temps of mid 70s C for my graphics card and the overall temperature with mid 60s C harddrive and usually high 60s-low 70s C for the processor. This is at idle.

If I'm running a lot of applications or especially a video game I'm noticing temps in the graphics card reach mid 80s-high 80s C with the same for the overall temperature inside the laptop. I'll also see the processor reach mid to high 70s C.

I've cleaned out all the fans and the inside of the laptop hoping that would fix the problem but I'm still seeing high temperatures and I'm afraid if it continues it will damage the computer in some way. Any thoughts or suggestions on how to correct this issue? Have you run into high temperatures with this notebook?

    Thank you!

    Hi Dynamite,

    First off dont panic :)

If you have cleaned out the back the only other thing that you can do is to reseat the heatsinks on the CPU and GPU. This is quite easy and takes about 15 minutes if you have some good thermal paste that is prob all that is needed.

In saying that, Mid 80's while gaming is warm but not alarming :) and high 70's should be fine, Which CPU do you have?

After 3 years, you need to clean the CPU/GPU, and reapply new thermal paste.

    I suggest IC Diamond 7.

Thank you! Is there a guide online or a website to help walk me through the process?

For what? Changing thermal paste? Yes, there are numerous on the web on how to apply it. Search for it. For accessing the GPU/CPU, search for the service manual. Zfactor (I think), a member on NBR, has them all. Its very easy and you dont need any skill to do it. Only skill you need is how to apply thermal paste, but thats easy too. You do need some suitable liquid to clean the die though. I use Isopropyl alcohol or whatever it is called, and a t-shirt.

Well, im having issues with temps on my m860tu, i think i need a new heatsink.

Playing bioshock 2 and the temps went to 101 c for cpu and 96 for gpu.

Ive taken everything apart cleaned out, reapplied arctic silver 5, ive even replaced the fan.

Does anyone know where i can get a new heat sink.

    Thanks
