I have weird artifacts during post then leading to blue screens and such. I'm fairly sure it's the video card since the artifacts happen during post.
Question I have is the vga card I currently have is the 9800m GTS. Can I replace that with a GTX 260m? Will it fit? Heat issues?
Thank you in advance.

first thing to do is download Who Crashed to give us a better idea of the error codes.

If the artefacts are happening during post, the it is very likely a video card issue. The GTX 260M will work quite happily in your unit (make sure you update the BIOS/EC first though). You will need to get the GTX 260M as a kit for your laptop and it will come with a revised heatsink.

a kit? i can't just buy the vga card itself from ebay and reuse the old heatsink with new thermal paste? I'm fairly sure its the video card, as I tried a fresh install and even without video drivers installed I get artifacts randomly and then it just crashes again. Thanks for reply!

In my M860TU, I was able to upgrade from 9800M GTS to 260M by using the existing heat sink. [Essentially, I bought the bare card from RJ Tech.] Of course, you do have to do the BIOS update before doing the hardware replacement. The bigger issue for you is going to be the cost of the card due to limited availability at this point in it's product life cycle.

Oven with it !
There are several threads about it.
Short Version:
Take your Graphic card out of the mobo, you must be takeout any thermal paste, cooler, heat sink... anything that doesnt make part of the Graphic card. Pre-heat the oven to 180-200ºC, put the GC inside, don't let it touch the oven (you can make 4 foots with aluminum paper). Keep it there for 8-10 minutes. After that turn the oven off and let the door open for 30 minutes. Take the card out connect to the mobo and "voilá" is working again (I can't guarantee that, but already tried a couple of times and it always worked.

Hm...I just bought a used GTX 260m on ebay..makes me worry now, should have looked for a new one instead of a cheap used one?
