It appears Clevo have released a new design of the M860TU - the M865TU... doesn't look much different but thought it might be of interest![]()

-
Might be nicer than the M860TU, seems slimmer and looks like it has a better keyboard/palm rest/speakers.
-
Errr... Is there any difference at all?
-
Looking at the technical specifications, I can't find any differences at all, including in size, unfortunately. There's a possibility the keyboard/palm rest/speakers might be better though. Maybe this is simply the model that can run the updated 9800GT?
-
look different on design but everything in side it look the same, and maybe they still trying to update
-
Here's a wild guess: maybe they managed to cool down the hard drive ??
-
Just from looking at the picture the power button has been resized and there's a slight change to the keyboard plate.
-
Im curious to know about the differences as well.
-
i hope a design to cool down HDD like livesoft said...
-
-
Im already 99% sure what issue this fixes... Its suporting the scrn over the power button... atm if u hold the laptop in your hand while its on standbye u can press the powerbutton and turn it on while its shut... thus increasing its chance to die in bags.. etc...
clearly they have added suport to the lid and mabye some risers under the speakers and power button..
im 99% sure nuthing inside will have changed. beside mabye LED LCD.. perhaps. -
**** just bought the M860TU why didn't they do earlier??
-
I find this funny that they are making a new model over what appears to be for minimal reasons, while the m15x has had quite a few problems and still doesn't have a new model.
-
wow i would be really mad if this came out with a bunch of crap i originally wanted in my np8660 that i just bought.
-
-
They must be kidding...
I just got mine and its already outdated?
I want a new one... free of charge please! -
Hmm, at least with PCMW, if the changes are THAT drastic (which I doubt but you never know). I can always get a trade in at an extremely reduced cost.
-
i really think the only impressive change is the scrn... the panel will have less flex as its clearly suported by another big of plastic on the top.. stopping the Lid from pressing the Power button while in a tight bag...
Fact is i think we will see afue people Kill/damage/be annoyed by their m860tus by having them in tight bags with odd presure turning them on and making them overheat and shutdown/die
i dout the reports o this issue wil be high as the m860tu is very much a Gamer/Lanning laptop but for the fue people that actualy travel with them alot .. (like me) ive seen this issue about 3-4 times already... and its most iritating to have your laptop come out of hybination while still closed and start heating up your bag. -
I would have thought that it is just a slightly different design, much like the M570U and M575RU which had slightly different lid's and slightly different keyboard surrounds... Maybe it is just a co-incidence that there has been more support added around the power button
-
any idea how long it'll be till these are released? pre or post jan 09?
-
I'm sure they are probably going to change the location of the HDD (my theory is that it gets hot because its just under the GPU) and change some other components inside. Maybe it will also support other GPUs (like the 9800GTX) or CPUs and, who knows, support dual GPUs (like an integrated and a dedicated GPU).
Nevertheless... I now feel I have an old and outdated laptop!
BLoody technology... -
Well if you feel like that, the ideal thing is to sell and buy laptops every 6 months
My personal view is that unless it is a HUGE update and required, only then will I feel bad, and consider trading in. Otherwise, this little performance system is bringing in a lot of jobs and has paid back for itself already. -
The m860tu manual 2-3 month ago was already talking about having two design so I doubt that it has any major change probably only estethic change
-
-
Awww... Milcs, my friend... I gave up trying to keeping up with technology a long time ago. I try to keep on top of things but as soon as something is released they are working on something better. As soon as something leaves the shelf it's outdated. I wish it were diffrent too.
But the new model changes shouldn't be that drastic. Don't worry. -

I hope when don't get into heavy speculations like in those Mac forums (no offense)
-
What is the point of this thread?
if you read the Clevo Guide.... what did I say about deciphering the model number?
The last numeric digit will represent an aesthetic difference (color, trim, etc.)... nothing internal.
I am 99% sure about this from the past dozen or so models of Clevo doing this. -
Just kidding; but seriously, didn't anyone think to check Gophn's guide? -
-
Even if Clevo decides to modify the bottom chassis to reflect the HDD panel and such, they would keep the model number the same.
If they added internal differences, they would reflect that with another model number series, or like they did with the previous M570RU (Sager NP5790/5791).... adding a -U (to make it M570RU-U .... Sager NP5793) when they modified the bottom chassis for the X9000 and added OC capability. -
Its still a disapointment for everyone who bought this laptop, who though this laptop would rule the notebook world for many many years
-
-
but I expect it to keep up with upcoming laptops for at least few years
-
please all, calm down. its nothing but a cosmetic change.
who knows, maybe they think this laptop is doing so good, they want to make as much money from its lifespan and to lengthen that, they put yet another powerfull wolf beast in another sheeps cloth. -
This revision is way to close to the release date. Even if it is "just" a cosmetic change. Not cool.
-
The only way I see it is that Clevo are trying to sort out the points where critics have hit at the M860TU hardest. It is way too early for them to release it though. I think they would have been better off waiting for the next gen chipset to come before releasing a refresh to iron out the problems.
-
too bad. there isn't much picture on coming up m865TU XD, and so far i could only see 1 thing are different from clevo.com's picture
-
I would just like to see the bottom...
-
The way I see it the only revision needed was to increase battery life if they actually needed to do something. Maybe the integrated nvidia or intel graphics switch or allow for larger batteries (since now the battery is underneath there is no way to put one that is bigger and sticks out...). Other than that there's nothing to improve until new components are released.
-
M865TU FTW!!! lol
... They are basically identical, what is the fuss about? -
lol arom i look at your sig... you will wait forever man, I could not wait and i ordered a pro-star m860tu
-
-
To be honest, as Gophn and a few others have pointed out, i think that the M865TU is just a different chassis style... just like the silver M571RU was released a month or two after the orange M570RU... i don't think there are going to be any major revisions this soon after release!
-
hope not because i would b so angry knowing my M860TU is already dated.
-
Well, if it comes out before Christmas I'll probably get one over the M860TU...newer is better, no?
-
no, newer is not always better, especially if the case color and trim color is uglier than the other model number.
-
Maybe the surface is not a fingerprint magnet anymore...
-
I've yet to see something glossy that does not leave fingerprint stains on it.
We'll see what this model brings, I ordered my 860tu anyways... I really need a laptop so I can't wait any longer, hopefully I made the right decision. -
You did. Once its not for extended battery life. You did.
