According to the specs on their website the N150RD only supports DDR3 ram. Does this make any sense?
The chipset is the Intel HM170 Express and the processor is the I7-6700HQ.
Can someone with more computer knowledge explain this to me?

Skylake supports both DDR3 and DDR4 but it's up to the notebook which type it's slotted for.

So what part of the notebook determines which ram it supports? Where does the chipset come into play?

They are using 204PIN RAM sockets on this model.
Only the P-Series systems have the 260PIN DDR4 sockets.
Just get a fast DDR3 (2133Mh) with low timings and it'll be as good if not even better.Last edited: Oct 10, 2015i_pk_pjers_i likes this. -

The only down side is maximum capacity at the moment, as Prema was saying it's the memory slots soldered onto the board and how they are wired on the PCB to the CPU that determine which type is used.

Like I said, the RAM slots. DDR3 and DDR4 SO-DIMMs use different physical slots, as does UniDIMM but no notebooks have it yet.

IMHO, this was a great decision. It's not in the high performance end of Clevo models. It won't have DDR4 prices. As was said, DDR3 with low timings, will be the better performer right now. It has an ODD and a SIM card slot, provided the vendor chooses that feature. An all-around machine.
Clevo N150RD (Skylake) doesn't support DDR4 ram?
