    Hi Folks,

    I have a 17.3 Clevo N870HK1 Laptop I would like to upgrade the 1080p panel to a 4K panel if possible :)

I saw this previous thread here which seems to indicate it is possible on some models: http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/edp-screens-on-clevos.789311/

I purchased my Clevo Laptop from PC Specialist a couple of years ago when it was known as the Optimus VIII but I believe the Clevo chassis is called N870HK1 but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong.

This is my current factory display:

    http://www.panelook.com/LP173WF4-SPF2_LG Display_17.3_LCM_overview_27610.html

It is a 30 Pin eDP (2 Lanes) connector while the 4K panels seem to use 40 Pin eDP (4 Lanes) but PC Specialist sell a 40 pin eDP cable for this motherboard but it is specifically label for this screen

    LP156UD1-SPB1 - N870HJHK1

    http://www.panelook.com/LP156UD1-SPB1_LG Display_15.6_LCM_overview_26868.html

As you can see this is a 15.6 display so I am not 100% sure if the cable will be long enough for the 17.3 chassis.

This is the panel I wanted to upgrade to:

    http://www.panelook.com/B173ZAN01.0_AUO_17.3_LCM_overview_25358.html

Does anyone know if it will be compatible if the cable does work?

Any help would be greatly appreciated, thanks :D

That 4k 40pins panel is not compatible. You need a 30pins panel

Thanks for the reply, would replacing the 30 pin cable with a 40 pin cable not solve the issue? It seems the Clevo motherboard I have in my laptop has a similar SKU with a 4K screen and 40 Pin cable which should be compatible with my motherboard and I can order this display cable quite cheaply, thanks.

Is there a 40pins port onto the mobo?

Is the motherboard connector end not the same? Here is my current cable for example: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Display-cable-6-43-N8701-010-2N-/162761079605

And this is the replacement: https://www.aliexpress.com/item/NEW...-P-N-BA39-01208A-Replacement/32820278626.html

The motherboard end seems to be similar (30 pin) while the LCD end is either 30 or 40 pin depending on the cable.

This listing for example has both the FHD and 4K cabled side by side and they seem similar on the mobo end so it should be possible to replace the FHD cable with the 4K one?

    https://www.aliexpress.com/item/New...K1-010-1N-N870HC-EDP-CABLE-6/32851192460.html

    Thanks for your help :)

That is clearly an error; Clevo *7* systems are 17.3" (and *5* for 15.6"). They've typed this over from a service manual and quite a few of them have the wrong panel list (always 15.6" screens on 17.3" systems).
Yes, that is possible. The connector on the mb is 30-pin, but not all pins are necessary for a 4-lane, 40-pin panel.

The B173ZAN01.0 is an original option for this system, so you're good to order that aliexpress listing. The service manual claims '30-pin' for a similarly-numbered cable, but that seems another error or there could be cable options that are not in the manual. That photo, at least, clearly shows it's a 40-pin and it's meant for a 4k, so it should be the ZAN01's.

I would like to refresh a bit.
I do have a question regarding that topic. Am I also able to change the screen from FHD to UHD? A vendor of mine told me that my laptop (haven't dissasembled it yet) uses one of each screen. It is either
lg lp173wf4-spf5 or lg lp173wf4-spf2. I have been looking for those to check replacements and discovered that I may exchange, but not sure. Is anyone able to help me with that and check if for those lgs are any replacements?
    @t456 and others
    Thanks.

Use panelook to get the basic stats off each and compare to your current one.

I tried to check both of those panels, but it says it's only FHD (unless I won't dissambly it). That's why I am asking before doing it. If so I am going to do it and then post more details about. But will do as you have suggested :) Thank you

Hwinfo will tell you your exact panel, it's a little tricky to tell what info you are after.

Refreshing it once again. After checking in HWinfo it seems I do have a model
Do you think it's possible to place there a 4k screen?

    @Meaker@Sager
I have checked the display from the first site. Seems like I have to dissasembly the screen in order to check pins from the machine/display and check if the LCD B173ZAN01.0 (AUO109B) is working with this model. Once I do it I will update the thread.

    @ Meaker@Sager
yeah, that's my pannel. I have dissasembled everything and in the screen end is 30 pin eDP 2 channel. The same is on the mobo. So 2 ends of the cable are 30 pins. The ZAN panel has 40 pins. So the question is what connector is needed for the ZAN screen while having 30 pins on the mobo?

My connector cable is marked as:
    N870HC EDP CABLE
    6-43-N8701-010-2N
    HTK(KT560) 17/05/15

Not sure either since @ gtaking and the moderator is not responding to that. Hard to find any info at all in the internet. Idk should I look for similar screens within the reseller brands? For example in my country, there are 2 resellers who are selling the product - it's Dream Machines and Hyperbook company. In the other countries there are Sager, and so on. What should I do?

See if any version comes with a 4k screen then contact that reseller for a part to see if they can ship you one.
