 :( Can anyone shed any light on my problem please, I have a 5 year old Clevo notebook which has developed an odd problem, It runs perfectly well on mains power with no problems at all, but when I try using it on battery power it loads windows and loads my desktop and all relevant startup programs but after 1 minute the system freezes and the keyboard and touch pad dont work atall so all I can do is hold the power button to switch it off, why would this only happen on battery and not on mains ??? I've also tried a brand new replcament battery pack but its still exactly the same ? :(

Any help would be very much apreciated

    Thanks

Chaz or Donald, can you shed any light on this?

I think I have seen these problems before, but forgot the exact problem.

That's a very odd issue, I can't say I have come across one like it before.

One thing you could try is completely turning off the notebook, taking out the battery, and pressing the power button a few times to drain any excess electricity running around.

Have you tried playing with the power settings? Try Portable/Laptop mode when on battery and see if that changes anything.

Is your hard drive turning off on battery by any chance?

Hi Gophn and Chaz, Firstly Thank you to you both for replying, any help is very much appreciated, I've tried playing with power settings in portable/laptop mode, and I've tried removing the battery and pressing power button, It still has not helped, I notice it freezes up just after the last task bar item is loaded, although I haven't installed anything new for quite sometime, so its only anti virus and firewall running etc as I'm pretty good with housekeeping and keeping my pc's tidy etc, even if I'm midway through programs list it just freezes, and as you mentioned it does give the appearance on the hard drive not running as it does go quiet and the hd light is not flashing after being very active it stops flashing, I've tried new replacement Ram today too but makes no difference, could it be cmos battery issue ?
    Thanks again to you both

it could be that you battery needs replacing.

I remembered seeing this happen on notebooks about 3-5 years old.

Does your battery still hold a decent charge (1 hour+)?
If not, then thats the main thing that I would look at.
If it does still hold a good charge, then I would be suspicious on the Power Adapter, then the motherboard [where the power is managed] within the notebook.

Something else you could try is booting from a Linux Live CD on battery and see if that does anything. That way we can figure out if this is a hardware or software problem.
