I heard MSI GT60/70 have a badly designed cooling system, where Clevo P150/157/170/177 is much more optimal. Just wondering how much better are they?
I managed to get a screen shot of a brand new and stock GT70 (4700MQ, 770M) running a stress test, could someone nice enough to show how a similar configured Clevo P series behave under similar condition? Great thanks!

According to the owner, the testing conditions are:

    Room Temperature:
    22C / 72F

    Fan Setting:
    Manually set to 100%

    Prime95 Setting:
    In-place large FFTs

    Furmark Setting
    1600X900, 0X AA
    Dynamic Background: on
    Dynamic Camera: off
    Burn-in: on
    Extreme Burn-in: on
    Post-FX: on

    Result:

Max cooling is pretty similar but the msi tends to be noisier.

The 17 inch sager has an advantage in cpu cooling due to the copper heatsink.

Said Clevos also employ two fans (one for CPU, one for GPU) over the single fan setup MSI employs in said GT models. The temps under stress would be fairly similar, albeit maybe 1 - 3 degrees Celsius in favor of Clevo.

The MSI GT72 have a different cooling design then the GT70. It uses 2 fans so be sure to compare that too.

Temps under stress will be better for clevo.
But under ANY condition , the MSI are less noisier, particularly in idle, where the clevo way to loud for nothing !

    Depends on the model.

My 8258-S at idle is absolutely silent. When playing average games, the fans are barely noticeable.

The fan cranked to maximum is noticeable, but then, the fan cranked on the MSI, Alienware, Asus, etc are also noticeable.

A gaming laptop is going to sound louder than other laptops. Those that have silent fans are likely not pushing out much air, so you trade silence for high thermals.

I would have to disagree slightly with Ashen-Shugar on idle noise. Sometimes, the fans will periodically spin up, albeit not very loud, but still quite noticeable in a quiet environment. As for temps. my 4700mq gets 70 ish degrees on small ffts and no more than 68 on the normal tests.

Hum, could be the differences in our ambient room temperatures.

Mine's sitting at 23c, and the fans never spin up doing normal surfing/music playing/browsing/etc.

My CPU hovers around 39-43c and my GPU is of course not even enabled while normal stuff.

While playing Mass Effect for a 5 hours, my CPU hit 68c and my GPU hit 70c (the fans only spin up to the first level on this which is still quite quiet)

    I have the i4810 and the 880M.

Hum... ok, so you have the older SM, not the SM-A.

See if there's a new bios out for your beast. I remember earlier bioses had some wonky fan control settings that would toggle on/off the fans and make them louder than they needed to be.

    Can't hurt to look :)
