Two nights ago I attempted to start Dota 2 and my laptop blue screened with the error "video_scheduler_internal_error." After rebooting I was met with an error from the catalyst manager that said it could not start because a driver was missing or not working properly. My GPU temps disappeared from speedfan. Device manager reported both my 7970m and HD 4000 were not working with code 43.

I have since uninstalled (in safe mode with DDU) both my intel and AMD drivers and reinstalled several different versions of both. I can't open either the Intel or AMD graphics managers. Neither appear in the system tray and the intel manager doesn't even appear in the context menu. If just the intel driver is installed it doesn't report any errors but the manager still won't work. If both are installed then both report a code 43. Also the hotkey driver fails and disappears from the system tray if either driver is installed. If both are uninstalled then the hotkey menu works fine. The GPU temps have never reappeared in any temp reader. My computer recognizes both devices by name when the drivers are installed but I can't seem to get either working in any situation. Also (I don't know if this is relevent) my computer has been making a single soft beep on random occasions for the past few weeks.

I know my 7970m is likely shot but I'd like to be sure before I drop $600 on a new card. Since the Intel isn't working either I figured it might be something else, but I don't really know how to proceed from here. Any suggestions?

could you run who crashed and post the bsod dump results on here. you can find the software in my sig below.

normally the driver is uninstalled in normal mode and then reboot into safe mode to do a registry clean.
no idea if this will work but you could follow part of my walkthrough in sig below about removing graphics drivers in safe mode (replace the nvidia bits with ati/amd) and see if a registry cleanup will rectify the problem.

Thanks for the reply. This is from Who Crashed's report page:

On Mon 5/26/2014 2:11:34 AM GMT your computer crashed
    crash dump file: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\052514-11312-01.dmp
This was probably caused by the following module: watchdog.sys (watchdog+0x39CA)
    Bugcheck code: 0x119 (0xA, 0x8, 0x10, 0xFFFFE000B78C0010)
    Error: VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR
    file path: C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\watchdog.sys
    product: Microsoft® Windows® Operating System
    company: Microsoft Corporation
    description: Watchdog Driver
Bug check description: This indicates that the video scheduler has detected a fatal violation.
The crash took place in a standard Microsoft module. Your system configuration may be incorrect. Possibly this problem is caused by another driver on your system that cannot be identified at this time.

I also got GPU-Z from your page. It's been able to confirm that my HD 4000 is working fine (sometimes it seems to not start but if I disable and re enable the driver in device manager it starts working and I can access the Intel graphics manager). GPU-Z reports no activity for the 7970m.

not seen this one before VIDEO_SCHEDULER_INTERNAL_ERROR
but its pointing towards the watchdog driver conflicting with windows or something like that.
have you loaded watchdogs or was it only Dota 2 that caused the crash.

have you updated to the latest whql graphics driver from amd. i know nothing about ati cards so cant help much there.

this could be one of those games where the driver wont auto switch to dedicated. happened also with titanfall so only way is to force it to use 7970 in ati control panel.

hope someone else with that card can advise.

Watchdog in Windows display drivers has nothing to do with Watch_Dogs the video game. ;)

Maybe if you hadn't spent so much time under your rock, you would have heard about watchdog timer in Windows... ;)

    Just a thought ;)

Do you really think it was a coincidence? I think they've done it specifically for that purpose... :D

I wouldn't be surprised if in a couple of months we would see an announcement of a new super turbo mega cool game Failure Code 43 in the works... :D

Anyway, OP, as much as I hate to say it, I think your card is dead. :(

I've reinstalled Windows, updated my BIOS, and tried every different driver I could. Guess it is dead.

Can I buy a 680m like this one and just replace the 7970m with it?

Yes, you can, just don't buy a Dell card, as they don't work in Clevo laptops. Other than that, it should be a plug&play procedure.

Eh probably not quite plug and play, even upgrading within the same brand I think it was recommended to do a clean install, much less going AMD to nVidia.
