Hi, I've recently tried to record with an external microphone using either the Mic In jack or the Line In jack and for both cases I realised that there is quite a bit of noise in the recording. I'm recording in quite a well sound-insulated room so I was quite confused as to what contributed to the noise. I noticed after some digging about that the most of the noise seemed electrical and came from the onboard Realtek ALC892 'soundcard'. I confirmed this by plugging in the microphone but turning it off, and voila, the exact same hissing electrical noise was present even with the microphone off.

I've tried updating the chipset drivers but to no avail. Noise cancellation using the Realtek settings works somewhat in reducing noise but totally ruins the quality and accuracy of the recorded audio so that is not a viable solution for me.

Can anyone advise me on how I can get rid of this silly hissing noise?

Unless there is a solution I have haven't heard of, you have to buy a new sound card, I'm afraid. Or you can buy an USB microphone, - I have done that myself.
I have the P170EM, and I have also noticed that the audio card is not that good. It's really a shame because the rest of the parts in the computer are of really nice quality.

This will sound real weird, but uninstall the hotkey drivers and install the latest hotkey software.

Make sure you uninstall it before installing the new one.

Do NOT just install the new over the old.

I found some very wonky plugged in microphone issues with an older hotkey and installing the latest hotkey resolved all my problems.

I think it's because the hotkey drivers handles the microphone/headphone amplification.

I've tried installing the latest 6.0100 but that didn't help resolve the audio issues. I've ordered a USB to 3.5mm converter thing to see if that will solve the problem.
