Clevo P150EM with fried network/LAN port

So, thanks to a lightning strike and poor planning on my part I now have a non-functional lan port on my Clevo P150EM. I have ordered a USB adapter but would like to see about replacing the part(s) needed to get a working LAN port again. I don't have a SMD/PCB repair station, so swapping parts will have to do.

Could I replace this with a P151EM board? Would that allow transfer over of ram/cpu/gpu?

 

I upgraded my setups with 5GE for hardline access and picked up a USB-C 5GE adapter for ~$60

For your average USB/ETH adapter though they're in the $10 range for a gigabit.

I guess the bigger question is..... Why wired when you can do GIG over wifi these days?

 

Wired is always better when available. And since my desk is 10ft from my networking equipment it wins. Wireless is only used when it's the only option for a device or the device must be used in no fixed location.
So now that we have a knowledge of my philosophy on the subject, can I get an answer to my inquiry?

There may be some slight differences between the two boards. Porting things over from one board to the next should be possible but, there may be some items that don't transfer over. The main items like HD/RAM should be fine though.

 

Well if you want to send a board over to try, I'll rely on Maybe's baby.

 

Can't help you there with the board but, they're in the same series and there are subtle differences between them. There will likely be some trade offs between models.

The problem with these is that once they're not being sold nay longer it's hard to compare them side by side. Once they're ~ 1 year out of production the stats on them disappear.
