    Hello everyone.
I recently replaced my dead HD 6970M GPU in my P150HM with one pulled from a P170HM (set me back $260!). The GPU seems to work since I can see things on screen. However I noticed that within the first 10 seconds of starting up both the CPU and GPU fans don't spin, then they start spinning up at max RPM and make loud noises. Also once the fans spin up, the laptop beeps for 20 times and the three lights on the upper left side of the keyboard blinks until shutdown. I can't even get to Windows.
I don't recall the machine did this before when only the dead GPU was in. Now I tried to remove the working GPU and heatsink and the same problems comes up. I reseated both fans, heatsinks and RAM already.
Now I don't know if this is a problem with the CPU fan, the motherboard or vbios. In the P170HMX it seems the bios firmware is the more recent 1.01.10 while mine is only 1.01.011bLD2. What do you think? Any help is really appreciated!

check if the paste job is done properly, the heatsink is installed correctly and also the placement of the thermal pads on the gpu. make sure u update both ur ec and bios (in that order) to the newest version for ur machine.

Is there a safe way to update the bios? The laptop shuts down after a minute, I don't know how to keep it on and don't have a spare clevo.

ah crap didnt consider that...if i didnt know better id say u have a dell card in there, where the temperature cannot be read out by the system and it thus shuts down after a short while...

I have the same issue with my old Clevo p150hm, tried to replace it with a HD6970M from a DELL... I did swapp the Bios chip on the board with soldering tools but this did not solve the issue.

Anyone know if there are any other soldering options to get the DELL card running on a Clevo?

Not that I am aware of. It's a common conflict with the firmware. The general consensus is to avoid anything other than a Clevo card for a Clevo system. I read of rare exceptions with some workarounds involved, but I don't remember the card or system involved.
