Hey gang. I have a quick question. I did major research before purchasing the MALIBAL LOTUS P150HM, config in my signature. I thought I covered all the bases but I have one more question. Does the Clevo/Sager BIOS support booting from an external dvd/cd-drive via usb? Reason I ask is because I opted for an optical-bay hard drive caddy for storage expansion, which is more important to me than an actual optical drive. But on the rare instances when I do need to boot from the disk, it would be nice to be able to.

And if the answer is no to the above question, would someone be so kind as to point me to an internal dvd-drive that I can purchase to install to my P150HM when needed? Ebay or any link would be great. I haven't received my laptop yet, but I am considering my options so that when it gets here I'll have what I need. Thank you for your time.

@MALIBAL, September 14th cannot come fast enough :)

I booted Ubuntu from my external USB DVD drive as well as installing Windows 7 from the same USB external DVD. So I don't think there should be any problems from there on.

Yep, it will work fine. Though be aware that if you're booting from a Windows installable USB, it won't work in the USB 3.0 port. Those drivers aren't included in base Windows 7, so those ports won't work for an install. The USB 2.0 ports work fine though. (The 3.0 ports are blue, for easy reference).

You can load the boot menu at startup with F7

Thanks for your responses fellas. That makes me happy :) I have a 16gb flash drive with my university's Windows 7 Enterprise along with a few Linux Distros, hiren bootcd, and rescatux so I am mostly squared away. But there is a select couple OS that I need the dvd drive for.

And MALIBAL #2, thank you for the info on the usb 3.0. That saves me time from figuring that out :)

    One more day ya'll.

I just had to update the bios on my Eurocom Racer as it would not boot period if I had a USB 3 HDD plugged into a USB 3 port. Hopefully its solved the problem.
