When i am using my laptop on the desk hdd temperature stays on (45c) when i am gaming. Sometimes i use my laptop on bed or on my knees so then my hdd temperature always stays at 49-53c i think is not good. Will this foil help to decrease my hdd temperature? Photo:

Hello, i think it wont work cause you need some air circulation. It will only slow down the process of reaching your max hdd's temp.

gaming in bed is not recommended as if you have it on the bed or on your knees airflow is being blocked by the vents underneath which need to kept clear.

Wrapping exposed circuitry in aluminium foil is never a good idea.

I think 50 degrees for a HDD isn't overly hot, but yeah. Don't wrap it in foil XD.

    or it could go BANG.
normal spindle drives should be ok upto 60c but not for hours on end and 65c is life threatening.
when defraging or virus scanning the fans never ramp up so this is normally when they can reach 60-61c
normal everyday use or gaming shouldnt go above 55c

Maybe get a tray or something to use while around the house to rest it on.

You could just get a lapdesk or cooling pad, either would allow you to use it on the bed or on your lap without blocking the fan intake. The HDD shouldn't be that hot, the bay is sufficiently isolated, but that be not be enough if you block the intake.
