    Hi everyone,

like many other users here, I was/am part of the Clevo P150em + Radeon 7970M wave.

Despite some difficulties in the beginning I actually never had any major problems since 3-4 years... until now.

Starting approx. 1 1/2 weeks ago my system suddenly shut down without any further notice. Not a classic shutdown, it simply turned off as if the power was gone.
No bluescreen, no freeze or anything. When restarting it sometimes worked fine for a couple of minutes / hours, sometimes it just went dead again during the reboot.

So i did the usual stuff like temperature checks, mem test etc.
CPU never got warmer than 70°C , GPU was at max 82°C. I'm not sure whether this is a usual range but I remember having much higher temperatures around 80°C/92°C where everything worked fine over the last years.

So i did a repaste and the temperatures dropped a little again to cpu 66, gpu 78°C under full stress.

Still the shutdowns came earlier and more often. I booted with AC connected and battery, only ac, only battery. No difference. MEM check passed without errors as i said.

at the moment i can't even start the system as the whole system turns off after like 10-20 seconds after booting - even though it was no used for 10-12 hours (so it's cold).

As i'm running out of options i still can't think of any other reason than overheating, although i eliminated all the possibilites imho.

So now i have to make a decision: is the system dead and can't be repaired -> get a new system.... or should i try to get a gpu / cpu replacement and give it another try. If getting replacements is an option I would like to know what kind of hardware u guys could recommend. Are there any recents GPUs/CPUs you can run in the setup, without changing the motherboard?

Or do you have any other ideas what the reason for all of this could be?
I'll try another repaste this weekend just to make sure I didnt make any mistake this time, but as I've done it several times with other systems I'm quite sure it was alright.

I'm happy for any kind of information i can get :)

    Thanks everyone.

If you can afford buying an entirely new system (perhaps using your old RAM and SSD so it's cheaper), I would probably suggest doing that as it sounds more likely that your motherboard is going rather than your CPU and GPU (although it's entirely possible that your motherboard is okay and your CPU and GPU are the parts that are going).

Upgrading is great if you can't afford an entirely new system and aren't having any issues but if you are having issues like that I'd probably suggest buying a new system if you can afford it.

    Thanks for the input.

atm the system doesnt even make it close to login screen... i guess now its broken completely :/
I'll check the web for a new system, but it won't be a notebook this time... going back to a desktop system as i have more space now ;)
i also contacted the guys at MYSN support - maybe they can still repair it or buy some of the working parts like ram, as i won't need them for my desktop system.

It sounds like you tried all the right things. If you're down to nothing left to try short of replacing the mobo, I think I'd replace the CMOS battery.

It's a long shot but it's possible. The batteries are cheap enough that it can't hurt to try.

Well, if I were you, I would probably buy a new laptop. I am not trying to say P150em is bad, but it is pretty old laptop, and it is great time to change your laptop. I would recommend P751ZM or P650

It still might be worth checking out if it is repairable, so it is good to reach out to them about it. If the computer was still running fine for your needs, a repair or replacement parts might be worth considering.

if it is the 7970 then the lappy wont boot without it.
same happened to my previous clevo after 2 years with a 9800GT. replaced under warranty with a 260gtx and its still going strong after 8 years and used every day.
my cmos has been dead for a couple of years now and still boots up fine but needs a F1 to finish booting. then date needs changing daily as it resets to day it was made.

might be worth trying the baking method and stick the gpu in the oven (walkthrough guides on here).
been reports that it can last between a couple of weeks and upto a year after the oven trick.

Video card? That would be my prognosis.

A replacement card might be worth it, but it will not be cheap. It's up to you to weigh whether the cost of a new card for an aging system makes sense, or it's high time for a replacement system.
