Hi guys. I have to buy a notebook Clevo P150sm but I have some advice to ask. First of all it has a GTX 980m graphic card. My doubt is about the CPU. I'm undecided between I7-4710MQ or I7-4810MQ.
So any questions:
1) 4810 costs 160$ more. Is it a worth upgrade over the 4710?
2) If I chose to mount 4810, i will take advantage of it of there are the risk of CPU throttling (and so it is as if I used a 4710)?
3) it is true that the 4810 is more easily overclockable?
4) I will have some bottleneck with GTX980M and I7-4710MQ?
That's all![]()

shouldn't it be 35usd for the update?
-
Here at my local store (Italy) the difference is 150 euro.

The cheap upgrade is a sager special.
4710 = 3.3ghz 4 core turbo up to 3.5ghz 4 core turbo when overclocked.
4810 = 3.6ghz 4 core turbo up to 4.0ghz 4 core turbo when overclocked.
The 4810 would require a little tdp tweaking to keep it going at full speed. -
Thanks for the reply Meaker.
So, what is your opinion? The upgrade is worth the cost? -

If you intend to use cpu heavy applications or games then I would say so.

IMO, not worth it. At one time they were offering an upgrade to the 4800 for 45USD, but that was only while they had inventory. The 4710MQ won't be a bottleneck on the dGPU. The framerate difference between those two processors is maybe 1 or 2 at best. You can always upgrade later down the road. The difference in cost of fleabay right now between the two is 80-117USD right now, so if you must have the 4810 then buy the 4710, then upgrade from a fleabay 4810 and sell your old 4710. That's way better than 186USD (150 euro).

Keep in mind you will need the original parts to maintain your warranty.
-
Yes, this is the problem. I will get a 3 years warranty, but i can't change components in that period of time.
ps.: i use notebook for games and photo rendering (Photoshop). -
I think that's generally true but there are exceptions to that. For example I've sent systems in for repair before and told them I'm not sending in my hard drive because of the contents of the drive and the risk they would wipe it. I never had a problem with that. The other thing is that if something goes wrong and they send you a replacement part to install yourself I doubt you'll get people complaining about your warranty. I did this with my NP8130 when my gpu failed. I allowed them to place a hold on my credit card for the cost of the gpu and they sent me a replacement. They didn't care that I had different RAM and hard drive in the system.

Personally, using the system for photo rendering I would upgrade the RAM before the processor, but the processor does make more of a difference on photoshop stuff than it does on gaming.
-
Yes, in fact I have already chosen the 16gb ram (cl9) version.
-
where can i get the numbrs to copy it into my intel tuning?

No numbers as every chip is different, you need to personally tune it to find the best settings.
