hello everyone, im kind of new to these forums and i have a quick question.
is there any way to make the keyboard from the clevo P151em illuminate like the clevo P150em, or does the motherboard in the P151em not have the right power ports for the keyboard?

I'm not sure, the motherboards are slightly different, but if you remove the keyboard you can see if the connector is there.

    I think not.

    Clevo P151EM Chipset = Intel® HM76 Express Chipset
    Clevo P150EM Chipset = Intel® HM77 Express Chipset

Motherboards are different. The connector should be missing for the LED's.
The chassis should support it, but not sure about the lights.

I might be wrong. Lets cross our fingers!

    P.S. Meaker ninja'd me :D

Nope. Not only it lacks the board's led connector, but also the backlit keyboard dooesn't have the same size and won't fit.

The backlit keyboards have the same data cable and size.... They just have the extra LED connector.

The same data cable, yes, but not the same size. That I can guarantee, as I have a loose non-backlit keyboard right next to me, it's about 1cm shorter, and slightly deeper.

Did you get an MSI keyboard instead? Because the P151em and P150em share the same case.

Standard Clevo one. Couldn't get the Steelseries even if I wanted anyway - MSI doesn't even sell laptops here.

Took a couple minutes for a photo. Here's how they sit aligned by the top left:

Ah it's not a "steel series" one (Ie from the OEM that makes them), they must be more expensive to get the standard ones from so they went with another supplier which was a different shape.

Oh well a no on both counts of connector and shape then.

OK just to clear things up.

    P151EM is HM77, there´s no difference to P150EM, you can even flash a P151EM with P150EM BIOS/EC (i have mine like that).

The only difference is that P151EM does not have the Keyboard Led connector under the keyboard, but all the solder points are there, so it´s somehow easy, you can get a connector and solder it to the board and it will work. Not something hard, but should be done by a experienced tech.

It looks like the top casing and keyboard mount is a touch different as shown in the photo.

Ok now I was thinking, the keyboard could have had its size changed on later models (mine isn't from a P1xxHM or a 151EM, but from an old W76TUN), so I found some top view pics of both P150HM and EM (couldn't get a decent one for the 151EM):

Keeping in mind it's not an accurate comparison, and assuming the laptops have the same size, it seems they really are different. The case on the HM seems slightly wider on both sides of the keyboard, and the keyboard's bottom edge closer to the touchpad.

But again, it's a visual comparison only. Can't be called accurate at all.

Yes it can, look at the right leds.

Under the icons for the backlit, to the side on the non backlit meaning a smaller keyboard.

Just to clear up some confusion here:

    1) All the P1xxEM series share a motherboard (Just different places for a couple of connectors and a different AC Adapter socket)
    2) The P151EM and the P150EM do NOT share a topcase, thats where the issue is, the P151 topcase is a different size then the P150EM topcase so thats why you can't swap them around keyboard wise. The P151EM and the P150HM DO share a topcase and you can swap between them :p

I just tried it myself, the P150EM keyboard is wider, weird how i never noticed that, so basically to do such a mod you would have to change the chassis, seems way to messy and troublesome for just a keyboard mod. And it´s really a shame since when you lift the keyboard the back-light connector points are there in the mbo at sight.

IF the base of the case is the same, then the potential would be to fit a top casing from a P150EM and then keyboard, but that will be costly and hard to source.
