Hi.
Just wanted to clarify for 100% if:
will work ad-hoc (after driver cleanup), or is there some more software tinkering involved? Below mainboard info & radiator shot - will it hold 980M cool enough without mods? Any issues updating the motherboard BIOS (or perhaps it's already the same 1.02.17 BIOS version I thought I need to update to?)? I want to clarify it for my client which I'm selling either 970 or 980M, so that it goes flawlessly.
- P170EM with 1.02.17 BIOS (http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/clevo-bios-older-models-released-in-after-2012.740492/), currently a Radeon 7970M installed
- & 970M/980M with Clevo branded vBIOS

It's likely but MXM is never 100%.

Any 970m or 980m that fits will work after installing a driver with a .inf mod. With Windows 7 I would sometimes need to reinstall windows when switching between Nvidia and AMD cards. No amount of driver cleaning would stop BSOD on startup.
You may have issues with thermal pads if reusing the same heatsink. AMD cards have a thick pad for core power MOSFETs in away from the edge, while Nvidia core MOSFETs are right on the edge of the card and need a thinner pad. -
The Dell one doesnt work if I recall correctly. The only confirmed ones I'm aware of is the Clevo and MSI variants.
But yes, it "should" work with an accompanying .inf mod that you can find premade or DIY (easy to do). I'm also not sure if you can reuse the 7970 heatsink with some thermal pads, as I believe the core placement is different. -

It's not usually the core or core mounts but vrm placement.
