Sorry guys if this is the wrong sub forum (mods please move if not, thanks)...

Ive been struggling to get a consistent FPS on BF4 on some maps, ive tried a lot of tweaks which have helped but still struggling to gather if its my actual setup or im under spec'd.

My setup is in my sig, im using the very latest WHQL drivers and the below ingame settings:

    GameTime.MaxVariableFps 59.940000
    PerfOverlay.DrawFps 1
    PerfOverlay.DrawGraph 1
    PerfOverlay.Enable 1
    PostProcess.DynamicAOEnable 0
    Render.DrawScreenInfo 0
    RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1Enable 1
    RenderDevice.Dx11Dot1RuntimeEnable 1
    RenderDevice.Dx11Enable 1
    RenderDevice.RenderAheadLimit 3
    RenderDevice.TripleBufferingEnable 0
    Screenshot.Format jpg
    UI.DrawEnable 1
    WorldRender.DxDeferredCsPathEnable 1
    WorldRender.LightTileCsPathEnable 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurEnable 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurFixedShutterTime 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurForceOn 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurMax 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurMaxSampleCount 0
    WorldRender.MotionBlurQuality 0
    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapEnable 0
    WorldRender.SpotLightShadowmapResolution 256
    WorldRender.TransparencyShadowmapsEnable 0

RenderDevice.Renderaheadlimit might need some playing around with, 3 seems to be the best for me so far.

    Game Settings:

    TQ - Ultra
    TF - Ultra
    Lighting - Low
    Effect - Low
    PPQ - Low
    Mesh - High
    TQ - Med
    TD - Low
    AA Def - Off
    AA Post - Low
    AO - Off

Most maps im getting FPS of anything from 70-100 but ive locked at just under 60 to get it nice and smooth. Maps Hawiann Resort, Shanghai and Parecel storm i get nasty fps spikes down to around 40fos. Normally 40-45 fps shoul dbe fine but on bf4 it is one huge stutter fest.

So before i go insane changing more stuff do you think its just my system or the actual game itself? Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

In my opinion that's about right for a 7970. Take the TQ/TF down to high and you're going to see decent improvement and it doesn't change quality much at all. Ultra just gets you the fine details that don't really affect the gameplay.

Something I miss here: what resolution? I guess fullhd? And is your card OC'ed? Anyway if I were you I would check your vram when playing those maps wih fps drops. If you put TQ and TF on ultra it will consume a lot of vram and don't forget bf4 recommends 3gb while our 7970m only has 2gb. I personnally never ever get drops below 60(usually like you 70-100 range) on these settings:

All settings on high and AA: 2xmsaa, AA Post: off, AO: SSAO Game looks and performs great.. on every map with every player count..

    cfg:

    perfoverlay.drawfps 1
    worldrender.motionblurenable 0
    worldrender.spotlightshadowmapresolution 256
    worldrender.spotlightshadowmapenable 0
    worldrender.lighttilecspathenable 0
    renderDevice.vsyncenable 0
    gametime.maxvariablefps 60

With the game locked on 60 fps both cpu and gpu hover around 75% usage, but ofcourse you have a weaker cpu and mine is overclocked also, so maybe on those maps your cpu is the limiting factor? try to run some monitoring programs in the background to see what's causing the drops..I'm guessing it's either your gpu that is out of vram or your cpu doing 100% and maybe even downclocks because of temps?

Bf likes to have a good cpu too especially to raise min fps.
