    Hello,
I am having problems with my AMD 7970m graphic card on my Clevo P170em laptop. I know that many are experiencing problems with the card, drivers and the Enduro technology. I have searched the internet on several occasions for solutions but not found one that works.

So I’ll try and ask directly if anyone has any idea how fix this.

My problem is simply that the 7970m card does not work, at all. Or it probably works but no program makes use of it choosing instead to use Intel HD 4000. For example both 3ds max and games like Skyrim will not list the 7970m as an option.

Looking around the internet it seems like there are many who have the card working but that there are complains about how much of the cards capabilities are being utilized. Frankly I am fine with it not working to the fullest of its capabilities I just want it working at all, it would probably be an improvement over the HD 4000 either way.

    Relevant information:
    Windows 7 64 bit professional.

AMD Radeon HD 7970M with 13.1 mobility whql driver. I think it’s called, I have tried several drivers, the newest beta driver from AMD and the one provided by Clevo without luck.

Intel HD Graphics 4000, driver version 8.951.6.0 according to the device manager.

If anyone can give me some help it would be much appreciated. Let me know if there are any other details regarding the systems that might be of importance.

Try switching the program profile to power saving -> save settings -> switch back to high performance -> save settings -> launch the program. If it works, repeat always after you boot.

Unfortunately this had no effect as far as I could see. I tried this with Skyrim and 3ds max, the two things I have installed that I know show which graphic card is in use and it made no difference. Still only the HD 4000 is an option. Nice idea though.

No. But since you mentioned it I ran 3dMark demo in steam. It used the HD 4000 as well.

skyrim usually comes up with the HD 4000. Though, it should run off the 7970m despite this.

Only real way to tell is to use something like HWInfo64 and MSI Afterburner for an on-screen display.

Looks like you resurrected an old thread.

A lot of us struggled back then. I don't know if anyone finally figured it out or AMD finally fixed the driver but a lot of us gave up and installed the NVidia 680M in its place.

I have my 7970M sitting in my parts bin because I replaced it with the 680M in my P170EM. Best move I ever made.

I did have problems with my simulator running off the HD 4000 rather than the 680M but that was the fault of the sim and some of the later drivers. Once I found a driver that worked, I was fine.

My best advice to you is get the 680M and toss that 7970M. You'll never struggle with this issue again :)
