    Hi all,
I have an old Clevo P170EM with 7970m and I got a 880m GTX 8GB (comes from P370SM) that I wanted to install.
Drivers would not work unless I mod the .inf on the driver.
My Clevo has the latest stock BIOS (1.02.17) and EC Firmware (1.02.12).
    Any advice ?
    Thanks a lot.

I don't like being the bearer of bad news... but it is not possible to get the 880m working in a EM system .. I would very much like someone to prove this wrong . I have 2 x 880m that only work in P1**SM and P3**SM

Oh yeah I forgot. Same as HM series.Kepler 7xx and 8xx don't work in EM and HM.

And yet maxwell and pascal cards work on EM series... Well that's definitely odd!

IIRC there was something about a pin used on kepler cards causing those incompatibilties.

You could just purchase a GTX 680M and make a custom vBios on it to reach GTX 880M levels of performance. I've done it many times and it's pretty good.

It is very good I can vouch for that. Or China as in Ali has a cheap deal on 970m .. I dunno how good they are but price seemed good £165 or something like that

That's not bad and the 970M is a far better card.

It is better but more expensive, you can get 680M's extremely cheap compared to the 970M.

True, though the 880m was the main comparison I was making, that thing was hot.

Super hot indeed!! I still have a 670mx lying around. I'll install it in the meantime and overclock it like hell and I'll wait for a good opportunity to get a Pascal card (1060 or 1070), as the P170EM can fit even the MSI "winged" 1070 GTX MXM.
    Thanks for everything fellas!!

That would be a serious good luck.
