    Hey guys,

I have a problem with not being able to sufficiently increase the volume of my speakers to the point where I can hear certain videos. I like to run SC2 commentary VODs while doing chores around the house, and it is very difficult to hear when I am more than a few feet away and there is any kind of background noise, at max volume from the laptop.

This is not a new issue; actually I have been observing it since I have purchased this laptop. It is finally starting to get on my nerves, so I wanted to make a thread about it.

If I go to my Realtek Manager, my audio driver version is 6.0.1.6307; audio controller is "HD Audio," and audio codec is "ALC892." Under DxDiag, my hardware ID is HDAUDIO\FUNC_01%VEN_10EC&DEV_0892&SUBS' (cut off?); driver name is RTKVHD64.sys, date is 2/11/2011, provider is Realtek.

Clearly, my audio driver is old, but I am naturally leery of updating audio drivers after some bluescreen escapades with my old ASUS G73JH (which, by the way, had no problems playing loud audio from speakers).

P170HM owners, please share your experiences if you know of anything I can do to resolve the issue, or see anything amiss with the above info.

How loud is it actually getting? Drivers shouldn't have a big impact on overall volume. Just keep in mind that they are smallish laptop speakers, and as such don't get particularly loud in the best of cases. You can check to make sure that THX is installed and registered and see if it's configured correctly.

Have you gone to your Control Panel > Sound and double clicked on your speakers? In there, click on the Enhancements tab, and check the boxes for Equalizer and Loudness Equalization if they are not already checked. This should help your sound a bit.
