Hello everyone! Is anybody know: gtx 460m fully compatible with Clevo P170HM3 motherboard? I plan to change the fried HD6990m video card to any less powerful.

I can say my p170Hm with 680m is a beast. Love the machine and quite the workhorse with the 4Gb VPU ram.
And yes my m17x r2 alienware is also running well (typing this message on it).

    Both are great laptops.
    Touch wood :)

Hi guys, just thought i would give you an update, my Clevo 7970m is faring well so far, so fingers crossed it will continue to do so. Playing BF4 doesn't get the temps above 80 degrees so it's cool (both literally and figuratively) :)
I am after a CPU upgrade now, and as far as I know the best CPU my good old laptop will take is this:

    Intel i7-2960XM Extreme Processor (8M Cache, up to 3.70Ghz) - SR02F

Is this the best or have I not looked hard enough?

    Thanks

Thanks, there is one for £185 on EBay and I am just thinking if this kind of expenditure will be worth the gain in performance? I checked benchmarks and it's not like it's twice as good :) what do you think?

With that, you will have maxxed out your specs! Will it be worth it? It depends on what you're doing with it.
Overclocked you might reach the 4,7Ghz area, maybe 4,5Ghz for daily use, depends on the silicon lottery.

Hi. So my 580m on my p170hm3 is dead. So i'm looking for something cheap just to get my laptop running. Any compatibility list for cheaper/older cards?

The 560M will work and is cheaper than replacing the 580M. Some of the 4xxM cards will also work, as will the AMD 6970M and 6990M (but beware the latter, it struggles with heat more than many other cards from its time).

Okay so i found the seller with new quadro 4000m, and he told that this card will work in windows with no problem but only my bios will not recognise the device, so i was wondering will i get no image until windows boots or only in bios it gona say "not recognized" ?
It's a pity that new mobile card holds such hay price, as well buying used is a big gamble

The HM series was always very picky due to having a different EC setup.

That may be. Is it not a Clevo card, then? Historically, other OEM cards do not work in Clevos, at least not without some time and effort.

My 580M on my p170HM3 is dead as well. Been dead for a while but it's time to investigate if the prices on GPU cards have dripped. I can get to the bios, I see windows booting, but then get a white screen.
I've not followed threads to this laptop in a while, but I remember something about making sure to get the correct exact matching card and from Clevo. I'll start reading the many many posts and try to catch up.

    Hi Meaker,
I believe safe mode sort of works. I have to check again cause I've had this issue for a while and forgot about it and now am revisiting it. I have another Sager that I have to RMA and then I tried sending this one back for repair, but it's EOL and no parts. I probably just need a 580M.
