    Hello.
I have a question - I can buy P170HM for good amount of money, without card, is there anybody who tried gtx 970m or 980m in it? Becuase i know that gtx 680m is the maximum it was upgraded too.

Currently the 900M series does not work in the HM models. I believe the 6xxM cards are the best it can do.

According to Prema, in a post at TI Forums:

Ok. So only option is to keep my msi gx740 and buy gtx 970m to see if it will work (for 90% i am sure it will). And prema made EOL for HM, sad because I thought EOL is only for manufacture which are pushing us to buy new machines :p

ah well, even though prema is a wizard, he can still only do whats physically possible ;) but hey, he made the EM series (successor of the HM) compatible with the 900M cards :)

I worked hundreds of hours and modded the **** out of it to make Maxwell 'work' in HM.
Even got to the point where I was not only able to boot but even install the driver without any driver modding...then something unrelated killed my board and the project got to a hold.
But now I feel a need to make Maxwell work in my P170HM3 as I have a HTC Vive incoming and no other system that could handle it. Already got a new mobo, just need the time to do it...

Ok, you didn't say anything about it ;). If I would know, I would buy Clevo P170HM I have on local market for 530Euro with 680M and i7 2720qm :(, because it's better machine than my msi... But not avaible now, sold.
@Prema - you are doing all moding in hex editior, or something more ?
And as fas as I know GTX 780M and 880M won't work in p170hm ? Also how is with the dell cards - does it need only reflash to Clevo vbios or does it need, to be Clevo card to work (have 2 dell cards: GTX 780M and Quadro K5000M)...

Don't make ANY purchase decisions based on your hopes for it being finished...it also requires BIOS/EC, vBIOS & hardware changes...
It was over a year ago when my board broke and I had to stop the effort...(never work on a totally disassembled running system with hot wires everywhere :p )...but now at least I have a reason to continue work on it for the Vive...all I need is time...

It always fun running a system totally bare on the desk but yeah with a laptop it's even worse than a desktop as they often rely on the chassis for the basic structure.

If i know what are you doing - programming or just modding in hex editior, I could help potenially.
Yea, but if you are getting to get the job done it will be sooner or later.
Now I assambled my msi for very few $$$, because it was physically broken (couldn't normally shut the screen, often problem in gx740), so will wait what you will mod :p.

It's the whole package, making sure the card vbios is talking to the EC firmware and the system BIOS. If any part gets "upset" it wont work.

Wow, I thought there will be no more development for the P170HM! Thanks Prema!

Maybe I should just keep my NP8170 instead of trading it in if I am getting a new laptop this year...

    ^^^^THIS!!!!

I would go back to my P150hm in a heartbeat if it supports the Maxwell cards! No Optimus! I wonder if that means it would also support external g-sync monitors? If it happens another donation will be coming your way lol

Also how awesome would it be sitting there with my 2011 laptop rocking it along the best of them.

Very interested if there is more news - or if I can help somehow with my p150hm since its my secondary now. I still have the 7970m I can put in the p150em to keep it my primary (No desktop for me, only laptops.) and play with the 970m and p150hm if required. I can be a test subject!

Optimus did help the battery life a fair amount.

Oh ya for sure, but the longest I ever really run off battery is roughly a hour. I like the mobility of a laptop because I do move it around enough to need one vs a desktop, but I almost always can also plug it in.

Having the PXXXHM series also support the Maxwell cards would great.

I just finished rebuilding my old NP8170 that a nephew had spilled water in and I would love if you do end up finishing this project Prema. I have a 485m in mine but I just can't bring myself to drop money on a 680m. It would be cool to see my 5 year old laptop running high end stuff again =)

I have a whole new appreciation for this model after tearing it down a few times to replace the MB and a few other items.

I loved my P150HM to death, quite literally :D if it hadnt died on me with multiple components giving out at the same time i would probably still be rocking it nowadays :)

I got on well with the EM myself but I can see the draw of no optimus if you are not plugged in certainly.

    Hey all!

I'm still on my P150HM, going strong with a 680M.

+1 to this! Super excited if an upgrade is possible down the road to Maxwell GPU's.

Btw, just got this skin for my P150HM. I'll post pictures when it arrives and I've installed it!

    Go Prema!!!
