How heavy is yours (with and without the power brick and cables?).

I'm considering a 17"vs a 15" and it's not really the weight that is the problem, but the bulkyness (I have been using laptops on my lap more and more...)

Does it feel bulky to you? Too wide?

    Thanks.

Its not a light notebook i can tell you that. xD
Both the notebook and the powerbrick is heavy but i can still hold the notebook with one arm no problem.

And its not too hot to use on the lap while doing non gaming tasks or watching movies with DXVA accelleration from your choice of media player.
    (Mines XBMC btw. :D )

The 485 has been performing just a hair better with most games (about 5% better according to most reviews) but it also does depend on the game you are looking at. I have seen the 6970 score a little better on some and vice versa. The big question will be if you think it is worth the price difference at that point.

Congrats, DEagleson! :) I have some questions for you. Wich reseller did you used to buy it? And what was the final price including VAT? And of course since I'm from Norway as well, how long does it took to get this lappy?

I actually bought it from Multicom, a reseller based in Norway.
I payed around 18500 kr, but most of the cost was due to the SSD.

After i got confirmation that the AMD Radeon HD 6970m indeed was in stock it took around 4 days until i got it at the local postal office.

I rofled a little when i was at a Elkjøp store, and saw a Alienware desktop that was slower than my notebook priced at around 16000 kr.
Last gen i7 paired with a single AMD Radeon HD 5870. :p

Thanks for the benches and info DEagleson! +1

I think if Clevo added a backlit keyboard and hardware switchable graphics like the Alienware M17x R3, this machine would gain a lot more sales because it is so much better value than the Alienware all around. It's too bad that Sager / Clevo can't react more quickly and implement those changes. Granted I'd be a bit irritated if they came around and made that change now, because I'd want those features, but for the sake of the brand, wonder why they don't do it!? Well, add a better stock screen wouldn't hurt either!

OMG, thanks a lot! I didn't know about any sager resellers in Norway. Now I'm pretty sure to order this lappy in the coming future. :) Once again I'm asking about the refresh rate the display is holding.. How much is it? I assume it's 75 hertz, but is it possible to upgrade the screen in the future which supports 120 hertz?

current p170's have the basic 60hz refresh rates.. a supposed 3D model is due out that'll have a 120hz and the 485m.. after it comes out, i'm sure a reseller could get you the 120hz screen and the 6970 for you.. idk if it'll run at 120hz, but you never know..

Using Sapphire TRIXX as my overclocking tool:

P170HM's HD6970m is currently running 845/1075 stable on stock voltage using Furmark as a stress test. If I remember correctly, max temperatures were mid 80s Celsius with fans maxed and ambient around 21-22 Celsius.

Overclocks should be able to be pushed higher, but do not have time at the moment because of final exams. Will post some benchmarks/screenshots at the end of the week hopefully.

    hi all

I have bought P150HM with AMD 6070m and I am having some problems setting powerplay. I know this sounds really LAME, but I can't get it right.
I run 3D Mark 06 on mains, and did not even get 10k score with PP set to Max Performance. Could anyone please enlighten me?

I have my 6970M running at a comfortable 800/1000, and I'm not going to push it any further. At 820/1100, my screen flipped out, and I had to hard reboot.

As usual, I get the card that doesn't oc well. I'm good though, because running at the 6850's 775/1000 was all I cared about anyway.

    I had the same issue:
The reinstall was the only thing that worked. It's some kind of Powerplay issue, because my performance sucked, even though monitoring programs showed that it was running at full clocks.

I had this issue too during the short time I owned an M17X R3. I was running at full clocks and I couldn't even get 60 FPS in Amnesia: The Dark Descent.

It also idled really high: in the 50s or so.

There was also a hardware issue: the reason why I returned it coupled with less-than-satisfactory customer support.

BTW, why don't you like CCleaner? How did it mess up your laptop? Is it the registry cleaning function or something else?

Yeah, I ran Driver Sweeper, then used the CCleaner registry fix. I rebooted and the screen froze on the Starting Windows, even though I could still hear that it was fully booted and sitting on the desktop.

Every time I've used CCleaner for video driver issues, it's screwed things up worse than they originally were.

Ironically, I just made this post a few days ago:
And I did it anyway, because I had run out of options.

Alsio, I'm not sure what I've changed, but my card is only downclocking to 300/900, instead of 100/150.

Yeah, a clean install definitely wasn't in my plans, on the first day I owned the notebook.

It's pretty straight forward though. Just format and reinstall will the restore disk it came with, and then every single driver you could need is on the other disk.

It's worth it, just to get the full potential of the card. The 6970M is blowing me away. Overclocked, it's pretty much 3x faster than my GTX 260M.

    ok, some update here.
I have removed AMD catalyst driver and then used Driver Sweeper. Rebooted and reinstalled the AMD driver. Changed PP settings and Windows power option and rerun 3D Mark 06.
score was 17813 @1280x1024 - waaaaay better than before, but still somewhat low?
what score would be acceptable/looking at?

Kevin, the specs of my machine are identical to your one apart from RAM (my is 4GB).what was ur score?

I got 19405 on my first run with no overclock.
(As you can see in my first post.)
But i think i got more points because im using Intel Core i7 2720QM instead.

Probably think i could score even higher with a overclock and the newer AMD Catalyst 11.4 drivers but im to busy with my Mass Effect / Dragon age gaming.
The games are MUCH!!!! more smoother rendering in 1080p than my lousy Xbox 360 could ever manage, and now i gotta remake all the saves again. hehe

DEagleson, since you got 6970M, could you clarify one moment please? So, what kind of DVI port does this laptop have? Is it single link DVI-I or dual link DVI-I port? I pinned image to see the difference between these two variations.

I'm now running 11.4 as well. My Vantage score went down a little bit, but I don't care.

My 6970M seems to consistently run 10% slower than everyone else's. Oh well, I've never had much luck with getting the best samples.

You could compare my GPU-Z screenie with your card to see if we got different vbios or something.

I did use GPU-Z to upload the vbios when i first ran it.
Maybe we get to see community tweaked vbios in the future.

Anyone who had the idling issue make sure that you set your output monitor as 1 by going to screen resolution and change it. When I first install my card it was idling at 250/900 instead of 100/150. Some how it output my native monitor as external. When the 6970m connect to a external monitor it would idle at 250/900.

I just pasted my Core i7-2720 and AMD 6970M with Thermaltake TG-1.

    5 minutes run:
Prime 95 Max CPU is 77C
Furmark Max GPU is 82C (It was 95C before I replaced the paste)

I ran these tests right after the pasting. I heard that letting the paste work for awhile will improve its performance right? I'm pretty happy with the numbers. The 2 tests were ran simultaneously. I guess the white paste on the GPU was really bad.

I received a 3DMark06 score of 19465 with everything stock.
I don't like 3DMark06, because it is also CPU dependent for the score. A better benchmark would be 3DMark Vantage.

Hi guys, I know this is a P170HM thread, but just ordered an NP8150-S1 with the Radeon 6970M :) Can the P150HM get an OC as high as the P170HM? I've got IC Diamond. Btw, can you just install TRIXX and OC? Or do you Regedit?
One last thing, can you directly install the drivers from the AMD website?
Sorry for so many questions, i'm kinda new here ;)

Yes, you can just download Sapphire Trixx and start overclocking. Sorry that I didn't mention it in my last post. I have the Eurocom Racer (NP8150) with the 6970M. After I pasted the CPU + GPU myself with Thermaltake TG-1, I get max 82C on furmark on the GPU with a 5 minutes run. It ran at 95C before I pasted it. Darn... Almost forgot to mention it again that I ran furmark overclocked at 800 core/1000 mem.

Some people couldn't download the working drivers from AMD.com. I have no idea why but they get something different when they get the 11.4 from AMD. What you have to do is google: 11-4_mobility_vista_win7_64_dd_ccc_ocl. This will let you find the actual package that would work on your 6970M straight from AMD. Red Line started a thread about this :)
