Nvidia has been putting out Windows 8 (NT 6.2) entries in the inf's for a while now, since last year, it's carryover from dev.

Nice info about the 3D P170HM3, was wondering if we'd see something like that spring up.

as I was posting this I was like "I bet Atmosk is going to chime in saying he already knows about this".. :p it's cool though, you derp around in the driver files all the time, modding em for us :D

yup. Hoping this knocks alienware down a few notches. Prolly not though, they're already saying that Dell is supposedly releasing support for the 485 soon. Think we've been reading the same r3 485m thing.

    I hope it'll have a FHD 120Hz Matte screen, like the G73jw/G73sw 3D.

I notice the new Sony Vaio 3D laptop which uses a 240Hz screen isn't mentioned in that list even though it uses the Nvidia GT 540M GPU: does that mean Sony's 240Hz system is not 3D Vision compatible?

I'm also wondering whether LG's new FPR 3D LCD displays that use polarized, and therefore passive, glasses will be adopted by other laptop manufacturers: LG Produce 3D Notebook | 3D TV Watcher

Also, does anyone think that 3D notebooks are now becoming prolific enough to warrant a dedicated section here at NBR?

AFAIK the polarised screens tend to suffer from bleed (ghosting). Also, don't they essentialy work at half the resolution when in 3D mode?

A 3D section should probably be set up sooner or later, as for now the 3D discussions are mostly confined within the manufacturer forums. But for starters a 3D thread should enough.

That's why I'm interested in Sony's 240Hz screens: they insert a blank frame in between the left and right frames to reduce crosstalk, or bleed.

Regarding the polarised screens, I was under the impression that the whole point of LG's FPR displays was to alleviate crosstalk but you're right about the resolution: the height is reduced to 540 lines (width remains 1920) when used in 3D mode.

is it? what benefit are you going to be getting from that high of a refresh rate if it's not going to be outputting 3D?

hizzaah, first of all it's better for your eyes health. More hertz you have, less screen flickering you get, because it represents complete reconstruction of the screen image more quickly. And second is that any animation on your screen is slightly smoother. That's why many pro gamers are using old school CRT monitors which supports high refresh rate. Especially players who are playing most of all online shooters like counter-strike, to get accurate and smooth mouse movements. But now there are plenty of LCD monitors with 120 hertz, so CRT is almost useless these days.

So when will they offer 15" 120hz screen upgrades? Mythlogic? Any news on this? I don't care about the emitter, but I'd REALLY like to have my 8150 screen swapped for a 120hz version (that runs at full 1080p not 720)

So is the Clevo P170HM with the 3D display considered to be the "P170HM3" or is there a new Clevo model coming out as well? I'm wondering if getting the 3D display would be better/equal to one of the other upgraded screens that are available. How much of a difference does 120Hz really make?

Here is my post where I noticed about the main difference between the ordinary 60-75 hz panels. No doubt you should go with 120 hz panel if you planing to play games mostly. I really don't care about 3D gaming, 3D movies and other stuff related to NVIDIA 3D VISION. The only thing I need is that my screen should be working at 120 hz refresh rate. So there is one thing that I appreciate about this new and fancy 3D technology, because it works only with high refresh rate panels like 120 hz and I never heard about these panels before 3D came into computer field.

Clevo may make other 3D models, but for now, the only model with 3D is the P170HM-S1 for most resellers. (which has the 120hz screen and integrated emitter).

120hz only makes a difference in games that need it for 3D or in high speed movies or games (granted, most people are unlikely to notice it)

    Hi all

I signed up here, though have been a longtime lurker, just to answer any questions you may have regarding this model.

I have had this model and been using it constantly for about a week now so I believe I can answer any questions and or concerns quite accurately and without bias.

So if you have any questions etc just shoot!

OH and you shouldnt be paying anywhere NEAR some of the stupid pricing I have seen around so far!!!! Buyer beware!
