Well epic or not my laptop didn't boot again (again that black screen), i tried to boot it 4 times and did not startup, i removed the power cable and tried to boot and voilla it worked. Maybe the source is the power and i need to put the cable in another power source.
Will keep you guys updated.

Hi guys,
Well the blue screens of death are gone (duo faulty memory) but now i have another issue with this laptop. (infact the same black screen issue as before)
1st day when i got my laptop back i had no issues with booting, i played crysis 2 for +/- 2 hours after i got home from work and turned the laptop off after i had to do some other things.
2nd day, after i got home i booted up my laptop with a result that the screen is black @ booting and does shut down it self after 10-15 seconds. After doing 4 attempts of booting when all failed it worked the 5th time (i didnt remove any cabels). After i got those issues i emailed the retailer again that the problem is not fixed and that i wan't to send it for RMA again.
3rd day, I am free today so i started to investigate the problem with the laptop.
Because i didn't play any game on the 2nd day the laptop booted up fine, i played crysis 2 for 1-2 hours to see what would happen if i shut the laptop down again.
+ 5 times black screen again and every time it shut down it self after 10-15 sec.
6th time the laptop booted
Now i did the following things,
I removed the cable/power and played a game with the battery power only. I put F.E.A.R. 3 in low resolution because without power it's stuttering. I played the game for 10-15 minutes on battery power and shut down the laptop.
Same story again, the laptop didn't wan't to boot and took 5-10 minutes after i could boot up again.
So now i removed the battery and used the power cable only, i played F.E.A.R. 3 again and after a good 30 minutes of gaming i closed the game and shut down the laptop. After a good 10 seconds of waiting i wanted to turn on the laptop and again the laptop has black screens and does not wan't to boot.
I have a weird feeling about this, but everytime i play games the laptop does not wan't to boot again.
My thoughts,
- Mainboard faulty
- Videocard faulty
I already checked the temps from the GPU and it's just fine (40c in idle mode).
The laptop works fine when i don't game, after i shut it down the laptop reboots
Any ideas, because i feel terrible now and i really regret that i paid for a laptop that doesn't even work proper -

I suppose it is possible that your memory could be at fault, especially since that seems to be the change that was made when this issue started to happen. I have seen issues like that caused by a mainboard as well though, so it's tough to say at this point.
-
The memories already got replaced for the third time.
-
Now when i use the laptop, even after 15 minutes and shut it down i get a black screen issue as soon as i wan't to start the laptop up again.
-
That feels very weird. If gaming isn't the issue, then it should be the motherboard. I would rule out faulty CPU since it doesn't crash while taxing your CPU with games/etc. That is indeed a weird problem. I'm really sorry your first P170HM is giving you so many issues.

Ok now it's getting interesting.
The black screen issue is gone (for now) and here are the steps wat i did.
1. Removed power cable
2. Removed battery
3. Removed both memories (again)
4. Added 1 memory and booted my laptop (voilla, no black screen issue).
5. Added the 2nd memory and booted up my laptop (again no black screen issue).
6. I did some research on the net and someone suggested to remove the cmos battery to clear cache because their might be stuff saved their that can cause problems if you updated your bios (As clevo told me to do duo the blue screens of death issues i got so i flashed the bios to the latest version last time), so i downloaded the clevo manual to see where that battery is located and of course it was hidden under the keyboard. I removed the cmos battery and waited for 10-15 seconds to connect the battery.
Now to my surprise my Windows 7 gaved a error message about that my Windows 7 copy is not genuine, i already wonderd why i didn't get that message earlier because i swapped from Corsair memories to Kingston memories.
From wat i have read on other forum is that if people change hardware in vista/7 that their legal copy of windows 7 change to ''illegal copy/not genuine''. This never happend when i swapped from Corsair to Kingston a few weeks ago.
I believe that something from corsair was still hidden in the bios. Now after a few hours using the laptop i did not get any black screens anymore after i did those steps (and i hope it is fixed now)Attached Files:

No problems so far looks like the clearing cmos might have fixed it.
-
btw can pm me the link of the forum that suggest the advice to clear cmos battery ? seems like people there really know their stuff -
can you share with us with any guide how to clear CMOS in P170HM ? I have also this notebook and I don't have right now any problems. But it's always good to know some tricks
. 2 months ago I had similiar problems to yours and I replaced previous memory modules on Corsair 4GB 1333mhz and now works like a charm.

Ok it's not fixed, my laptop has again the black screen issue after 1 hour of gaming.
When i re-seat the memories the black screen issue is gone, this means that my mainboard is faulty because i already replaced the memories 3 times now
1st kit = Corsair 8 GB (1 of the memories was faulty)
2nd kit = Kingston 8 GB (1 of the memories was also faulty)
3rd kit = Kingston 8 GB (both memories are tested with memtest pro and has no issues)
I am really tired of this laptop and i will never buy a laptop again in my entire life, i regret that i payed so much for this laptop because i could buy the newest of the newest desktop pc for gaming etc.
Those problems i have now are not worth the money i payed for, either this mobo will get replaced or i demand a refund -

Also what issues did you get ??? Blue screen of death or the Black screen @ startup (when you boot your laptop) ???
After 10-15 second after the boot the laptop is shutting it self down (possible duo a hardware conflict). -
2 - If it's within 30 days of your receiving it, then you can demand a refund no questions asked.
3 - I'm really sad to see you leave the gaming laptop scene, I would try to convince you to go to a different reseller (or even a re-brander, as re-branders like Malibal and Mythlogic test their machines in-house guaranteed before shipping out to you, so these issues are the least likely to happen). Honestly, I've never heard of such a dud on arrival. I feel really bad for you. -
1. Bytes@work in Belgium.
2. I have problems from day 1 and i have the laptop now for 2 and half month
3. Well leaving is a big word, i got in touch with the german company who retails those laptops to Bytes@works, they told me to send it back to them for repairs.
I got their adress via clevo by using my serial number. -
-
I don't blame Bytes@work for anything, they have a super service and if i had issues with ram they get swapped really fast (other companies like Alternate here in the Netherlands are testing stuff first before it gets swapped, and that can take weeks).
Bytes@work did everything they could, but the issue is the mainboard and i am very sure of it. -
Got a mail from the retailer in Germany
Hi Michel
Thats right we received the laptop.
We found some defective parts and swapped them. Now we are testing the unit - if all is ok, we will ship it back tomorrow.
mit freundlichen Grüßen, best regards

Guys my laptop arrived today and i got a note with it
- Replaced Nvidia Geforce GTX 485M
- Replaced LCD 17.3" FHD Glare
- Replaced LCD Kabel
- Replaced Mainboard
I hope it works now because everything got replaced so far except the Hard disk and blu-ray drive lol -
Hi all,
I can report that my laptop is running perfect without issues. It seems all problems are gone now after 6 days of using it. No more black screen issues or blue screens of death.
I am pretty sure the old mobo was indeed faulty.
Again thank you to everyone who wanted to help me in this topic with all my problems, i really appreciated it.

I am impressed, the laptop is still working  ... glad everything is fixed now i really thought i would get those annoying blackscreens back (i did not fully trust it if i am honest, this because they said the mainboard got swapped but when i unpacked the laptop out of the box and turned it on it had the same bios/firmware installed as my old mainboard). Because everything works fine i am pretty much sure it got swapped
.
I did notices in AIDA64 that my battery has Wear Level 8%, is this normal ??? I already used the laptop on battery power till 10% and re-charged it but it keeps saying 8% (Wear Level).
I mostly use this laptop for gaming and use the power cable the most, wat do you guys recommend ??? take the battery out or keep it in the laptop ???. I tested the same program on my older laptop (Packard Bell) and the Wear Level on that one is 25% (Laptop is from 2006) -
I just read your whole thread and wow, way to stick it out. Glad it got fixed. -
Hi all,
I have a question and i think this laptop has yet again a problem.
Since 3 days i noticed a electrical noise coming from under my keyboard (Exactly under the g-h-j keys) while i play certain games. When i am in the Mass Effect 2 menu i hear electrical noise, when i unplug the power cable this noise is gone and when i plug it back noise comes back. Also when i don't use the laptop for 15-25 minutes i hear a beep sound when i don't use it. I already tried swapping the cable in another source but that did not help, is the power unit faulty or again the mainboard ?
Please tell me that i don't have another problem.
Best Regards,
Michel
