Hello, i have a strange problem on my PC Specialist laptop (Clevo P170SM) with GTX 980M. The laptop was actually rarely used since its purchase in March 2015. One day it ceased to charge the battery. It says Plugged in, Charging and the percentage does not go up. I even left it for 2 days to charge but to no avail. The battery was stopped at 41, i have let it run down, tried all suggestions found on the web such as removing the battery, deleting the battery drivers in Windows 10, running the computer from a Linux USB and still the same. The battery deterioration is a whopping 1 percent according to HW Monitor and it was working perfectly fine just the day before. Any suggestions on what i should try?I have reset the BIOS to default and reset the CMOS battery. Is there a way i could reinstall BIOS or find an update for BIOS (PC Specialist does not provide any BIOS downloads). Any help would be really appreciated.

Have you left it with the machine off? It's either a motherboard or battery issue. It would be hard to test without swapping it out in another unit.

Right now the battery is in the laptop, it was always used inside the laptop, but overall the laptop itself did not see much use. Its just very odd that one day it works andout the other ir does not. Out of the 3 pc specialist laptops I had 2 of them had issues (one needed a motherboard replacement).I guess this is what you get from custom laptops...

Probably main board related. The easiest way to find out is to pop in another compatible battery. Honestly, this is not terribly uncommon (custom laptop or not), unfortunately.

Batteries are a very physical thing, they do age with environmental conditions too and they do go wrong sometimes.

1. Unplug power supply, remove battery.
2. Discharge leftovers (press power button when unplugged).
3. Plug in power supply and power on laptop.
4. Insert battery. -
Sounds more like one of the cells went under 3v, the power monitor IC flagged the pack as unreliable, turns the mosfets off and blows the fuse, you can replace the fuse, but the IC will blow it again, because the pack is marked as defective, most likely its a BQ battery monitor from TI, and they have keys that must match so you can edit them again and make the pack work again(after replacing the bad cell(s).
If you have a multimeter measure the voltage on the two outer most prongs, if 0v or near that, its a dead pack. -
Thanks for the help -

Yeah, messing with battery packs is not really novice friendly, especially considering the potential consequences.
