Hello Guys, I Brought Crucial Ballistix 1866Mhz 16GB (2x8GB) Kit to upgrade my notebooks RAM. These modules are 1.35v units with CL10 timings and support XMP Profiles.

Unfortunately system refuse to start with these modules. :(

When I press the power button system show the keyboard light and then restart. Then again show the KB lights and restart (loop). No boot screen.:mad:

Can anyone explain the issue to me? Do i need to reset the bios via removing battery? Or simply P170SM not support 1866Mhz modules?:confused:

Currently I'm using my system with Corsair Vengeance 1600Mhz RAM (2nd Pic).

Ok, so I assume you have done the basic tests like booting it with one stick at a time?

Thnx Meaker. Yes i did test the ram sticks using Memtest86 and found they are working well.

I think i have a bad Ram slot.i manage fix the problem using slot 2 &4, If I use slot 1 & 3 (next to cpu) computer failed to stat, but i can use these sticks without a issue if i use the slot 2 & 4(under the kb).

I manage to isolate the issue to slot 1. I tried to boot computer with 1 stick at a time and sometimes computer failed to start if i use the slot 1. I tried 3 different sticks and they all worked well with other slots. However if i use slot 1 system sometimes failed to start.

Before i brought these ram modules i used corsair dual channel kit and one of the ram stick fixed to the slot 1 failed. I guess it failed due to slot 1's fault.

I guess slot 2 &4 is ok for dual channel mode and crucial kit passed memtest86 without a issue.

do I need to use slot 1 &3 to get dual channel mode? Right now I can see cpu-z reporting ram is running in dual channel mode if I use the slot 2 &4(under kb)

that means we better make the choice using all the slots when we place order? at least the seller have to test it first. at least the computer have to be able to start up first.

I don't think Clevo's support using 1866MHz memory. I tried using a pair of Corsair Vengence 16GB 1866MHz sdram and I had issues with blue screens so I replaced them with Corsair Vengence 1600MHz sdram and laptop booted up fine, this was on a P370EM.

Ok I did 16+ hour Memtest86+ run and I can confirm Crucial Ballistix 1866Mhz 16GB (2x8GB) Kit working fine. I used RAM slots under the KB (2 & 4). They work dual channel mode according to CPU-Z

Now my issue is finding what exactly wrong with slot 1 :(

using all slots is not a good idea, stress to the controller. I don't think anybody suspect ram slots to cause issues. this is the first time i ever face this kind of problem.

    The IMC should be able to handle 4x1866mhz sticks, I ran 4x 1950mhz CL9 on a 3rd gen I7.

Meaker Crucial Modules support dual voltage (1.35/1.5). At the moment they run @ 1.35v. do you think they will be able to handle bit tight timings (CL9). Or you recommend voltage increase to 1.5 before modifying timings?

Mobile haswell is locked to 1.35v you could not increase it if you wanted to.

I bought a Clevo W86CU several years ago and I've continuously had problems with crashes and BSOD. The reseller tried to fix it three times over the course of two years in vain (they replaced everything but the motherboard, HDD and optical drive), and after that I gave up because the BS are pretty rare (maybe once a week). Lately I've noticed that it happens a lot more often if the memory usage is high. For example if the memory usage is, or has been since last restart, above ca 75 %, and I tried launching eg a game, the computer would often crash when data is loaded (into the memory I suppose). Anyway, that problem was avoided by always rebooting before trying to launch a game.

Anyway, to get to my point, today the computer broke down completely. Caps lock and Num lock started flashing with a beeping sound during and after boot (first 6 times, pause, then continuously). About one min after booting the power was simply shut off. I suspected the battery, which is very old and bad, but removing it and booting didn't solve the problem. After that I tried to simply move the RAM to a different slot, and all of a sudden the computer is running fine again.

I can't say anything about the BSOD and crashes yet, but it seems like the problem I've had ever since buying the computer over five years ago was a bad memory slot...

Or seated bad. I took out my ram recently and only had 24gb instead of my 32gb. One stick want pushed in all the way.

Possibly, but I tried removing it, inserting it in the same slot and then booting but it didn't help. There was a clear difference in friction between the two slots (in the bad slot it almost slid in from gravity alone)

That is an EC panic, either the GPU is bad, the temperature sensors are broken or the fan headers are not connected/the fans are broken.

Is the Corsair RAM the original that came installed from the factory? If not and you still have that laying around try that in Slot 1 to see if it will boot.
