Hello,
I am thinking of purchasing a clevo P170SM from a local reseller and I cannot figuere out which graphics card to go for. The configuration of the laptops are basically the same, with an i7-4700MQ CPU, and the only option that I myself can edit is the GPU.
Config with 770m is approximately 100 euro respectively 110 for 8970m and 135 for the 780m.
I have been able to find sufficient information regarding stock benchmarks on all three cards but I would like some input on their OC capabilities and unfortunately I have hit a dead end here. These forums suggest that the 8970m cannot have its memory clock overclocked and on the 770m I have not found anything. As for the 780m there is quite alot of information on these forums so I believe I got that particular card covered.
My primary question is, as stated above, about the OC but thoughts in general regarding which of the three cards to pick would also be welcome.
I have also seen posts about the 800m series arriving in February so might it be worth the wait?
Appreciate any help you can provide!

Only advice I can offer is to purchase as much graphics card as you can currently afford. in this case, that would be the 780. Yes, the benefit of a clevo is that you can swap out graphics cards later, but the price is very high and doesn't go down much. The main advantage is that if the GPU dies, you can replace it (hopefully under warranty) and not trash the entire system.
With new cards right around the corner, if you can wait, do so. Get the 880 (or whatever they call it) and enjoy. -
Taking 3DMark11 as a performance indicator with 4700MQ processor.
GTX 770M has a score of 5200-5300 on stock. Stable overclock will be around 6000-6100.
AMD Radeon 8970M score of 7000 on stock. Overclock looks to be around 7300-7400.
GTX 780M score of 7500 on stock. Overclock looks to be around 8500-8700.
Interpret these numbers as an approximation. In-game performance may vary based on driver support. Obviously there are outliers and someone overvolted a single GTX 770M to 6500, 8970M to 7700, GTX 780M to 9000 score. However I took my figures from a bulk of reported scores replicated by a lot of different people. Those outliers will likely be unstable in games. -

Reasonable estimates there imo. The 8970m will do slightly better on a good sample and the 770m will drop down in higher resolution tests.
