    Hey guys

About a week ago my Clevo started making some strange noises apparently from the SD card reader. It sounds as if there was a bit of metal loose in there, or some electricity crackling, or perhaps a small insect chirping -- it's a weird sound. I openened it up and couldn't see anything loose, or any telltale scorch marks, or any sign of anything really, so I don't really know what could be going on. I haven't heard anything in the last couple of days, so I'm not sure what's happening.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

It's and opening, so the sound was likely from something inside the machine.

I thought so too, hence why I opened it up... but there was nothing to be found loose inside :/

The sounds you mentioned sound quite different from one another, so it's hard to say what it is/was. Perhaps when you opened the system, you inadvertently fixed it (if there was something caught inside, it may have fallen out).

The laptop appears to be okay otherwise?

The laptop seems to be running a little hot but nothing alarming - the fans looked a bit dirty when I opened it, so that's simple to fix.

As for the sound I heard... it was a series of sharp, high pitched, very short sounds akin to what a little electric arc might do, or a bit of metal trapped in a fan of some kind does as it whirs around. As it is, you may be right, it could be something trapped inside that got thrown around when the fans kicked up and I might have freed it.

Truth is I haven't heard anything in a few days.

Something trapped then and it could have fallen out without you noticing when you opened it up.

Well haven't heard as much as a peep from the laptop in two weeks. Meaker probably had it right, whatever it was may have just fallen out without causing (apparent) damage.

I've cleaned out the ventilation fins and reapplied the foiled cooling mod and temps are right down too.

All in all I'm a happy panda :) thanks for the help!

It may have been a piece of plastic from the casing that's not important or something that got sucked in.

Anyway glad it's all back to normal.
