Is it possible to Install a P170em motherboard into a p170em case. If so would the p170hm keyboard, monitor, and other hardware function?

Does it not "fit" but can be modified to fit?

Would be interesting to know if anyone has tried this or knows if its possible.

EM and HM shells are pretty similar but not exactly the same, since the port design (USB, displayport, etc.) differs. aside from that, the EM keyboard is backlit and non-chiclet, thus it has a different layout and size. apart from dremeling ur way through ur current HM shell, I´d hardly recommend doing such a thing :) if i were u id rather buy an EM barebone and install all ur current hardware into it. but then again, performance-wise, an upgrade from HM to EM is not really worth it in my opinion....especially seeing how the nextgen gpus are easily upgradeable in the HM machines :)

    cheers

Agree totally with Jaybee. Gaming wise, I gained a HUGE performance increase going from a GTX 560m to 7970m. The only thing I'm contemplating upgrading now is my wireless card to a 6235 or a Killer 1202 and CPU to 28XXQM lol.

A better upgrade will probably be the successor to the P170EM.

yep, I wish I had stuck with my 170hm instead of going for 150em. HM series have better sound quality and no switchable graphics BS, whilst CPU performance my overclocked 2920xm also ran quicker and cooler than current Ivy bridge offerings.

Yes I agree, put the money aside for the next system or for a 7970m.

The 'Backlit' was a joke, those are stick on fluorescent keyboard stickers, however you can refer to this thread for details, page 1 has bigger letters but I prefer mine because they are very close to the original size.

I would look into getting a barebones if you have everything else.
