Hello I just got my Clevo P370EM and yesterday it was running just fine, the only different thing is before going to sleep yesterday I turned off Windows 8 Fast startup.

Well today I started playing Planetside 2 and I noticed it ran much more choppier than yesterday and to compare I remember I had a Bioshock Infinite Benchmark I did when I finished configuring my laptop, so I ran one just right now and it is indeed slower.

I also noticed BF3 ran considerably slow with the same settings as always.

    Windows 8 Feels slower too.

anyone have any ideas what could cause this?

    The specs are:

    Windows 8 64bit Pro
    NVIDIA® GeForce™ GTX 680M 4GB GDDR5 Memory
    3rd Generation Intel® Core™ i7-3630QM Processor (6M Cache, up to 3.40 GHz)
    8GB Dual Channel DDR3 SDRAM at 1600MHz - 2 X 4GB
    Crucial® M4 128GB SATA III SSD
    750GB 7200rpm SATA 300 Hard Disk Drive

    Screens of Benchmark results:

    Pay Attention to min fps.

Any idea what could have cause this? I'm running the latest Nvidia drivers WHQL 314.22.

I'd look into your CPU temperatures.

I tried something I read on the Nvidia Forums. I tried running the laptop with the battery pulled out and this were the results.

This points to a power management issue right?

I seem to be getting closer to finding out the issue, the funny thing is that the system was running nice and fast when i got this message.

    Any suggestions?

not sure of your model but do you have optimus or intergrated graphics as those temps look like they are not using your 680

time to try other software. download core temps from my sig below to compare it to hw monitor.

also download some futuremark benchmarks and run them to compare to others with your same laptop.

3dmark/ 3dmark11 / vantage can all be found in my sig below.

DPC latency is a pretty common issue, but concerning your memory pagefault: hard page fault memory management problems are instances in which Windows goes to disk to resolve memory references (which would explain the poor performance).

You can also test your latency with this utility. Try disabling one device driver at a time and see how the results look with either utility.

You can load up gpu-z and see if there is activity on the dedicated chip when running a game.

Thank you for the reply everyone, DPC Latency Checker is not compatible with Windows 8 as you can read what it says in the Windows 8 Compatibility message right in that page.

One thing I did was I disabled the Killer Network Manager as I read it was creating high DPC latency for another user and I haven't experienced the issue again, I also recorded the temps after 2 hours of playing Planetside 2 and this time Windows felt snappy as expected and so did the game.

When I experienced that sluggish system problem I was getting around 20fps right now I'm averaging 50fps with the same settings.

These are my temps, they are sorted as current/min/max.
    temps 2.jpg

So what could be done about that hardpage fault memory issue?

Do you guys think the problem was really DPC Latency or is it due to the hardpage fault?

Thank you so much everyone for your time.

Page faults certainly take some added time to resolve (checking an address in L1 or L2 cache is faster than RAM, which is faster than an SSD or HDD) but it seems to be too much for me, particularly for an SSD. I would check if the SSD has any issue, but, the page fault should hardly be responsible for your lower fps in game. Try disabling the page file in windows and see if your gaming improves. I'd be at awe if it did, tho. Something is definetly amiss...

I checked my SSD with the SSDLife program and this is what it says.

    ssd.jpg

Like I said the issue hasn't happened again but if it continues I have until May 11th to return this laptop and get my money back.

I wonder if the Killer N 1202 Wireless card and program had anything to do with it, since I have been reading people having a lot of issues with them.

I'm not accusing anyone of anything, but just in case this applies to you, it may help :)

I spend far too much time reading .....

If you have pirated any games of recent , there is a virus that wont be detected by just about any software,
something like ihigh.exe that runs under task manager , in services, that runs all the time , using your GFX to mine bitcoins, running your gfx in to the ground , even when you try to play games.

In fact you don't even need to download pirate games, certain sites can let the thing in. Check to see if that is running and then make sure you stop it, and delete it properly etc .. I seem to remember it saving something in your windows temp.

Of course it maybe nothing to do with this but , always worth ruling out . worth googling anyway :)

Did you make sure Windows Power Options are set to "high performance" and same thing in Clevo Control Panel (Fn+ESC)?

Maybe worth a quick re-install of the chipset drivers while you are testing things.

IAStorDataSvc" version 11.5.0.1207 has a memory leak problem as well (if you're using it, 11.6 update seems to have resolved it). But in any case, glad it appears to be functional for you now. :)

Well at the time when this problem happened I didn't have the windows power options set to high performance, I had it on balanced but yesterday I set it to high performance and I didnt know about the clevo panel until I read your post so now its set to performance too, could that have been the cause?

and I don't pirate at all so there is no risk in there. I checked and i have no ihigh.exe running, and I reinstalled my chipset drivers just in case.

But I did notice something, you guys see the CPUID Hardware monitor screens I posted? Look at the first screenshot, when I had this system wide slowdown I did notice that in the battery section where it says "designed capacity" it used to say 0 and wear level 100% and I do remember that I turned off the laptop, took out the battery ran it a bit that way, put it back in and now look at the second screenshot, it shows the right capacity and wear level at 4%. you can look at both screenshots in this thread, I dont know if that has anything to do with it...another day and system seems to be running fine now but it would be nice to find the cause before my 30 day return period is up as I spend $2K on this laptop and I don't want any problems.

Thank you everyone for your time and input.

Did you retest with it set to high performance? That can affect performance definitely.

And battery wear level can change. When you first get it, it really doesn't know where it's at. After some discharge it starts to calibrate. A full discharge (slowly) will give your best reading on the actual capacity.

Yes I did and like I said the sluggishness hasn't happened again, I mean it was bad for me it is hard to believe that something like that could cause such a wide system slow down. It felt slower than my wife's $500 laptop with an atom processor.

Well that's good your sluggishness is fixed. Also for future reference your iGPU isn't set up to be used, so optimus or anything will ever be an issue for you, since you have a P370EM.

SSD life is like any other reporting tool, and it relies on the drive telling the software its health. My Samsung 840 Torture drive with nearly 100TB writes is stating 100% health when I know that's far from accurate.
