I'm not up to speed on all the latest benches.

Enduro issues aside, is the 7970m faster in most benchmarks and games or slightly slower than the 680m?

680m generally is in the lead in games.

Any news regarding 7970m and CF options for this barebone?
Also, any release dates on i7 3740QM and 3840QM?

The 680m is really a lot faster than 7970m,when its OV & OC.

1.) I dont plan on OC-ing at all
2.) 7970m is a lot cheaper and will do the job like a pro
3.) there is no comparison between the price for SLI and CF, nvidia is ripping us off like MP3-s from a CD

Its about the price-performance ratio again. Just like last year, I decided to go AMD and I am one lucky owner since then.
Now that 370EM will not have enduro, Im sure 7970m will work just as perfectly as my 6990m right now.

The AMD 7970M in CrossfireX is ready now for full systems for this model.

The 3740QM and 3840QM will be ready by October sometime....

I can not wait to see some feed back from
both one AMD 7970M and two AMD 7970M
systems before I pull the trigger.

Same here! Looking forward for a member of the NBR to post his review and be extremely critical about it, so we can see all the pros and cons.
With a machine that expensive, we need to be aware of every issue that might be in the package.

So far it seems to be very similar and familiar to the other EM line of laptops currently out there. Stock speed CPU and GPU temperatures with stock paste has kept temps under 80C for the most part, and GPU rarely exceeds 75C. I am repasting soon and overclocking and benching with whatever max overclocks the stock vBIOS will allow for comparison. This is with SLI 680m however.

I would love to do a system comparison HT, I could duplicate some of the tests you run when mine arrives.

out of curiosity and if you don't mind me asking, why'd you decide on the solid state array?

I was going to go with one large capacity drive, but the 128gb range drives are so cheap right now (270CDN with tax for both) I saw no reason to get lesser performance for pretty close to the same amount. I don't really have an intended use, it will probably help with the virtual machines I run at school.

I feel your pain too, it's like medicine, if you cure everything you won't be making billions will you?

I researched for ages and got the p170em with 680m and should receive it soon. But now I see that if I'd just spent a hundred more I could have got the p370em with crossfire 7970m's and had no enduro issues as it doesn't have enduro.

I will still be happy atleast knowing it runs cooler and uses less power I suppose.

What makes me spew is that the single gpu option from nvidia is soooo expensive and one can buy the crossfire 7970m's for the p370em and expect phenomenal power for nearly the same price as one nidia card.

Will nvidia release a dual gpu single card option for clevo p170em? would it compete with crossfire?

single pcb dual gpu and all that in an 100W TDP envelope....? dream on, lol :D

no but seriously that aint never gonna happen, wouldnt make much sense. by the time they would be able to cram two gpus onto one PCB and go below 100 watts a new gpu gen would have come out already and be pretty much as fast as such a dual-gpu monster :)

im trying to work out whats the best way to connect this thing to my pioneer receiver ?
i wish it would be as easy as just using hdmi ..but i dont think thats possible just for sound right? it arrives in a week , i had a look at specs and i couldnt see anything that would work?
any ideas? my reciever has optical , hdmi ,and multichannel wich is how i use to connect my soundcard on desktop to receiver to get 5.1 sound

There is no room to fit 2 GPUs on the MXM-B form factor regardless of power limits.

You can choose whatever option you like adya, sound is given over the hdmi cable.

You can get the full 7.1 from the 3.5mm jacks too, audiophiles prefer the optical out usually though as it involves less conversion.

i always thought multichannel was the first preference.i thought i read it somewhere ages ago...i probably got it wrong though , im not expert lol ill try optical see how it compares. i think id prefer optical anyway , its easier to connect and disconnect. thanks for the info

Basically you are outputting a digital signal with the optical, at which point your own receiver is doing the conversion to analogue for the speakers, it's just if you would prefer that to the internals doing the decode.

If you're a bit gamer, and you don't care about the cost, I'd go for the 680m (and 3d is great if you can !). If you have a tight budget or if you're not into video games, I'd recommend taking the 7970m.

a mild gaming user maybe (I play Diablo 3, SC2, DOTA 2, BF 3, Football Manager and Far cry 3), I do a lot doing office work such as ms office (excel and word a lot of page), browsing with multiple tabs and photoshop.
also I occasionally want to use this 17,3" laptop on bedroom with my wife watch some movies.

and important things I want this laptop can serve me well at least 2 years

I'm a 3D fanboy so I'm tempted to tell you to go for the 680 + 3d screen (unless you already have a 3D capable display at home) even if you have to take a 3630qm proc instead, and I'm pretty sure such a rig will last for 3-4 years. But I'm a fanboy, and you might find more objective answers than mine. :D

Skip the 3840QM. It's not worth the cost for the minor minor improvement it offers over the 3740QM.
