I'm opening this thread so we can talk about the best LCD replacements for this barebone.
I ordered mine last monday with the standard TN 1080p display because I didn't want to order neither 3k nor 4k optional displays.
So, do you guys know what IPS displays fit this barebone correctly?
@wickette has told me the first alternative wich can be found easily in ebay:
lp156wf4slc1

Not familiar with that LG panel. Currently we know of two other panels that are compatible, one a Samsung, and the other a Sharp.
Has the lp156wf4slc1 been confirmed as compatible? -
Those two are 4k screens, correct? With the Samsung being the pentile screen, and the Sharp being IGZO? I'm pretty sure he said he didn't want 3k or 4k...
A few screens that I've found to be compatible options include:
Samsung SCD324C aka LTN156HL01-102 - IPS Matte, 16ms response, considered to be best 1920x1080 screen available?
AUO B156HAN01.2 - IPS Matte, 25ms response
AUO B156HTN03.6 - TN Matte, default screen
Basically it looks like any screen that is compatible with the MSI GS60, Lenovo Y50, or Asus Q501LA should work in this system.tfast500 likes this. -

Aye, OP mentioned not opting for the 3k or 4k option. I wasn't clear on whether this was a budget issue at the time or a lack of desire for the higher res panel.
And yes, the Sharp is the IGZO 4K panel, the Samsung the alternative. -
stupid mistake it's LP156WF4 SPU1 my screen.
How to know your screen is compatible check three things :
dimensions : IF it's 4 front mounting holes, connector in the lower back = good it's a slim WLED panel
Screen connection port : eDP not sure about LVDS, but eDP that's sure (30 pins)
Port location : LOWER BACK - RIGHT.
anything like that WILL work. -
Don't want to derail the topic but speaking of 3K/4K screens which one is better the Sharp or Samsung?
-
sharp without hesitation
-
Sharp vs Samsung 4K
60 Hz vs. 48 Hz
RGB Stripe vs. Pentile Matrix
real 4K resolution vs. "4K" resolution (Pentile matrix includes white subpixels, thus the actual visible resolution is lower than the counted pixel resolution)
so yeah, im going with the sharp, no questions asked

The biggest issue for me is the 48hz if it were not for that I would say either is worth their value.
-

There's talk of Samsung releasing a new screen in the (near?) future due to the feedback on the Pentile screen.
-
Good. Nice to see market pressure actually work for a change.
Anyone know if it's possible to get a replacement video cable from Clevo/Sager so that one could upgrade from 1080 to 4K at a later date? (according to Prema, the cables are custom, and so unless you have a 4K screen to start with, the cable won't support a 4K screen later). -
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
There may be a delay in getting one immediately. You should be able to through your reseller.
-
Any suggestions on a good IPS panel to buy atm? I have no idea what to look for. Thanks
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
What system do you have now? Or is this what screen to get with the machine?
-
I'm running into the same problem. I want to upgrade to the AUO B156HAN01.2, but I'm not sure where the best place to purchase it would be? I saw a lot on ebay, and amazon.

Whoever guarantees an exact panel.

It has been mentioned a few times recently that when you go to purchase a screen make sure you are getting that exact model and not a "compatible" one. Its best to contact the seller to double check before ordering.

Does XoticPC sell a compatible IPS display? Maybe one of these on Amazon from you guys?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
We don't have any IPS panels we sell. -
Got two IPS screens from ebay, one ips LVDS for my dell and another MATTE ips eDP for my upcoming p650, ALWAYS take the time to contact the reseller, and when you buy an article add a note (possible on ebay) like : Make sure it's an IPS eDP MATTE screen ,
I can confirm that LCD4laptops (UK) sell IPS MATTE eDP screens : they have LP156WF4 SP B1 in stock (i have one). I'm pretty sure other resellers have AUO B156HAN01.2 in the UK (and probably my reseller too).
once again always ask.tiner likes this. -

That's the thing, if you check and it turns out not to be true you can at least then return it.

Hmmm did some research on the screens for the Sager NP8651....
I think I'll go with a high-gamut matte one as well.. Laptop is supposed to come in on monday so I'm excited!
Looking at both the LTN156HL01-101 and the B156HAN01.2 though, these screens seem to be the best 1080p screens that are compatible with this model.. But they seem to be the same exact screen.. I can't find any differences besides part number.
LTN156HL01-101
B156HAN01.2
Does anyone who used both of these screens know the difference between the two? I'm leaning towards the LTN156HL01-101 but I see that the B156HAN01.2 seems to be more common choice wise. -
Don't rely on laptopscreens.com for comparative info - all they do is list "compatible" screens, even though they are completely different.
LTN156HL01 is a 60% gamut 16ms response PLS screen from Samsung.
B156HAN01.2 is a 72% gamut 25ms response AHVA screen from AUO.
If you want to order from laptopscreens.com, make sure you ask before you buy exactly what model you're ordering - you might be surprised at what they tell you.Xavvy likes this. -

Does installing a new screen void the warranty ?
-
that depends on the vendor ure getting ur laptop from, but most wouldnt void ur warranty cuz of that.
-
72% Gamut? Wow why haven't I checked that before? That's a pretty big jump. Welp Pondering over, definitely going for the B156HAN01.2 screen. Thanks again man! I'll also be sure to check with multiple sources on getting a genuine version vs a compatible screen.
-
I emailed Sager and they said it voids the warranty. I would hate to void the warranty on my brand new laptop :/
-
very understandable indeed, still suc*s tho!
-
What? Sager usually lets users upgrade components without any concern with warranty void. You can swap RAM, SSD/HDD, CPU and GPU (in systems where it's removable), why not LCD's? Obviously they wouldn't warranty the replaced screen, but everything else they should.
Hopefully the Sager resellers can clarify this for us. I find it hard to believe, but who knows, maybe Sager has changed their stance on this. -
Larry@LPC-Digital Company Representative
If you are careful and delicate in your replacing the screen, not causing any damage to any other component then you can replace the screen with a Sager.
Of course the replaced screen is not covered under the laptop warranty. Also if you caused any damage in the screen replacement whether cosmetic or hardware wise it would not be covered.
Bottom line is you CAN do a replacement and still be covered by warranty on the laptop. Just be sure you do this in a skilled way....
-
So... I won't be needing this hammer, then?
Thanks for the confirmation!HTWingNut likes this. -
Right, so in other words not this:

edit: meh, mail carrier dropped off mail and no LCD.

Normally all the original parts installed by Sager will keep the warranty. Just be careful as mentioned and don't damage anything.
If you bought your computer from a reseller its best to contact them directly to get clarification. If you bought it directly from Sager and that is what Sager is telling you, you may want to believe them. -
Yes this was direct from sager not a reseller. I figured I might be able to swap back in the old screen if it ever needs warranty though.
-
Boo. So I guess we'll be waiting until after Thanksgiving for the how-to?
-
Support.3@XOTIC PC Company Representative
That would be an option, just be careful not to damage anything while doing so as mentioned. -
As i said there is no warranty void sticker, if you do it like a gentleman no one is going to notice, and no one is going to refuse repairing/replacing your HDD because your screen is different

Well I'm here through Wednesday, so if it comes tomorrow, it will give me a little time. Wednesday might be a a bit tight other than a quick and dirty install, so any "how to" will be rushed then, but I can clean up or someone else can clarify while I'm away.
-
I'll do it the day I get my p650sg worst case scenario
-
I just found out I'll be getting my RMA back tomorrow morning, so hopefully I'll be able to do the switch over the long weekend.
Now the decision, do I stick with Windows 7 Ultimate that I've been using, and loving, for years, or do I try out Windows 8.1 Pro...HTWingNut likes this. -
give 8.1 a chance, once u get rid of all the annoying tidbits (metro start screen, lockscreen, add classic start menu) its actually the best windows to date
-
For high resolution screens windows 8.1 without any hesitation
-
This is just FHD. No 4k in my budget, unfortunately.
-
samsung panel is also 72%, xentar tested before
-
you do realize that windows itself is is not the main problem for HiDPI screens right? almost 99% of the time you get screwed from 3rd party software and DX11 upscaling in games.
-
That's good to hear - any chance you have a link?
-
It is??? I'd like to see a link as well! Because if so I will be getting the samsung panel, this is literally a make or break for me right now lol.
-
ask xentar712 lol, he's the one with a spyder4 pro
