I am a student looking to buy a gaming laptop. I am looking at the Clevo P670RP6 from a number of websites, including HIDevolution, LPC Digital, Xotic PC, and Pro-Star. I haven't had any experience with Clevos, so I was wondering which company I should buy it from.

    Xotic: http://www.xoticpc.com/sager-np8172-clevo-p670rp6.html
    LPC Digital: https://lpc-digital.com/product/sager-np8172-clevo-p670rp6/?ex=1
    Pro-Star: http://www.pro-star.com/index.php?r=product/configure&model=P670RP6
    HIDevolution: http://www.hidevolution.com/evoc-p670rp6-custom-built-gaming-laptop-w-nvidia-gtx-1060-w-g-sync.html

All would end up being $1329 (the G-Sync monitor adds $50 to the Pro-Star).

Is it better to get a longer warranty? LPC Digital and Xotic both offer a 2 year parts and labor warranty, Pro-Star offers 2 year parts and 3 year labor, and HIDevolution only offers 1 year parts and labor without adding to the price.

Or is it better to get better cooling? Do Clevo's have adequate cooling? Xotic, LPC Digital, HIDevolution, and Pro-Star all offer IC Diamond thermal compound, but HIDevolution also offers Coolaboratory Liquid Ultra on the CPU. I would have to pay $35 dollars more for IC diamond on Xotic, LPC Digital, and Pro-Star. HIDevolution uses IC Diamond as the default, and for $30 dollars more will apply the Liquid Ultra.

Those are the two big questions I had. I also have a few questions about the laptop in general.
How long would the battery last during normal use (browsing internet, checking email, etc.)? I would like to use this laptop a bit at school and it would be slightly annoying to have to plug it in all the time.
Do these computers support Windows Hello? I'm just wondering, it doesn't matter to me if they don't.

    Thanks.

You really can't go wrong with any of the 4 you've listed.
With consumer electronics, its typically better to get a longer warranty.
As for cooling, premium thermal compounds will let you run a few degrees cooler, but Clevo machines have quite robust cooling systems to begin with, so they're not really necessary.
Battery life isn't great on Clevo machines. Buddy of mine has an XMG P706, average battery life is a little over 3 hours.

like krowe said, you can't go wrong with any of those. They all have a good reputation. I'm not sure how much difference you will see from the cool labs liquid metal stuff. Probably less than you would get from a quick 150mv undervolt on the cpu. Also keep in mind if you are going to add certain things like m2ssd, 16gb ram and the icdiamond to the sagers, go for the p670rp6-s or special version. You get those upgrades and it costs less than adding them to the base version. I just ordered a p650rs-g special from lpcdigital. My reason for this was, they avoided CA taxes, larry was super responsive, they gave me a student discount that stacked with free shipping and 3% cash discount, and they deal exclusively in sagers/clevos. the same system from hid was about $200 more and I would need to pay tax, plus less warranty. But hid does offer cool stuff like the prema bios out of the box which is cool if you over clock. The cooling on the clevos is really good for their size. Your 17 inch has an extra heat pipe over the standard 15 inch version. The 15 and 17 inch versions of the rs both have that heat pipe. Additionally you have two fans dedicated just to the GPU, and another for the CPU. Most setups have 2 fans. I wouldn't expect much from battery unless you are running on the Intel graphics.

Thank you both very much for your answers. I will probably buy it from whoever can give me the best discount.

Do either of you know if there would be a way to switch to the Intel graphics from the BIOS?

Fyi Xotic gives a free gift for 1200 or more, I swear by IC Diamond on all my desktop builds and i ordered the p650rs yesterday with it. I have many issues with FedEx (Xotic uses FedEx) so i went with LPC because they use UPS...

Edit: Forgot to mention LPC had 2 week less eta for 4k 15.6 screen

I did they haven't responded yet but when I talked to LPC on the phone I had an eta of two weeks less (4k screen)... I went to class Friday pulled my laptop out and the frame had cracked more causing the cpu fan to seize bringing the pc to its knees (stupid hp plastic case) so speed became more important than previously

Thanks Phoenix. I had actually read your post before when I was first researching the companies. With any of the computers you have purchased have you had to used the warranty after the first year? That is the only problem I have with purchasing from HIDevolution. All of the other companies offer 2 years without paying more while HIDevolution only offers a year without paying extra. I would love to have that level of customer service but if the 2 year warranty is necessary I will probably buy the laptop elsewhere.

What has been your experience with LPC so far?

So far I have only gotten responses from LPC Digital and HIDevolution in response to my questions about a student discount. In case anyone is wondering, HIDevolution offers a $20 student discount, and LPC offers a $30 student discount.

Does anyone know how overclockable the display would be on the laptop I'm looking at? LPC told me the screens will run at 75Hz with G-Sync on. Does anyone have one of these that could test how overclockable the display is?

I have heard 4k screen's do not overclock well at all maybe an extra 1 or 2hz

I liked the lifetime labor warranty and 2yr parts. That's why I was choosing between Xotic and LPC, I messaged Xotic and sager a week ago at the same time (3 different questions) Sager responded quickly with a very short but precise answer... a day later Xotic answered with a long informative answer but didn't answer everything. Xotic did respond to my other question fully. I have used Exotics chat service and I really liked it. I called LPC which I really liked a direct number clearly stated at the top of there page and I could tell they were proud to sell Clevos. They even finished answering my question I asked Xotic. I would say HID had the best customer service when I called them (answers and convo seemed above and beyond) , but LPC was a close second with Xotic feeling to "big business".
Side note: some places only use white back lit keys (I prefer rgb).

Yours is a 75hz screen, I've heard that every single OC attempty has resulted in stable 100hz...

Thanks for the response. I am leaning towards buying it from LPC because of that warranty and their customer service. They have 10/10 on ResellerRatings so they must be doing something right. I emailed HID, LPC, Pro-Star, and Xotic about student discounts and with a few other questions on Saturday. I did not expect any responses until Monday, and I was pleasantly surprised when Larry from LPC and Ted from HIDevolution quickly responded to my emails.

Sweet! That is great news that the display can be overclocked that high!

Oh sorry. I should have made that a bit clearer. I was talking about the laptop in my original post which has a 1080p display.

I am considering getting it from either Xotic or LPC, though I am leaning towards LPC as I stated above. Could you explain more about your experience with Xotic?

LPC Digital is m 2nd favorite reseller. @Larry@LPC-Digital helped me with a very complicated issue on my P870DM-G even though I am not their customer. It is very rare that you see such levels of good customer service when you are not a paying customer. I highly recommend LPC Digital

Thank you all who responded to my questions. In case anyone is wondering, the student discount from Pro-Star for this computer is $20, the student discount from LPC Digital is $27, and the student discount from HIDevolution is $20. I finally received an email back from Xotic stating that they have a 1% student discount up to $20. But the representative I contacted also told me that the student discount cannot be paired with the shipping discount, which is worth about $28. That rules out Xotic for me, leaving LPC as the cheapest of the 4. So I am going to purchase the laptop from LPC Digital because of the better price and excellent customer service.

Xotic is running a special for 50 off if your a member here, code is nbr so that would be cheapest i think. LPC does there student discount based on residential state which seems weird but mine was different than yours and someone else was different.

I think I am still going to go with LPC because of the better customer service. It would only end up being about $10 cheaper anyway.

That is a bit weird. They never asked me which state I am from when they calculated it. I guess I will have to wait and see if it changes when I get the invoice from them.
