    Hello there!

Long story short I have have been utilising the P751DM-G for a while now (3 years + ), runs flawlessly until the GPU decided to die on me ( mosfet KO ), fortunately it can fix. The thing is most likely the final stretch for the card is coming sooner or later.

    Specs:
    CPU: i5 Skylake 6500 socket 1151
    GPU: GTX 970m
    RAM: 24 GB DDR4
Display: Full HD IPS 15.6" 60HZ

I am interested in upgrading the GPU, from GTX970 to any viable solution of GTX 10x0 +
Starting from 0 modding to more advance things which are necessary.

I've been lurking on the forum for a while now and I'm not sure if the following card has been tested on P751DM-G.

    https://www.ebay.com/c/828750033

    Thank you in advance :)

That wont fit, it needs to be the same width as the connector which none of the Clevo ones are.

only standard mxm cards will fit:

    - 980M
    - MSI 1060
    - Gecube green PCB 1070 (known to blow up)
    - Gecube blue PCB 1070 (higher TDP than green PCB, more mosfets)
    - Black PCB 1070 found on ebay
    - Zotac black PCB 1070 (pulled from their SFF skus)
    - Quadro P3000/P4000/P5000 (latter a bit slower than 1070)
    - Quadro P3200/P4200/P5200 (latter a bit slower than 1080, but make sure they have a vbios chip soldered on)

Thank you kindly for the information.
From the ones that you have listed, can you tell me which one should be considered? Speaking from a quality point of view.
Also, if you would be so kind to share a link from where it can be bought, that would be nice :)

depends on your budget and performance expectations ;)

not so many sources around to find mxm gpus: vendors like eurocom and rjtech, ebay, aliexpress, taobao or forum marketplace like here on NBR.

Well, if GPU performances increase with at least 25%, I'm satisfied with that.
Regarding the budget, lets say somewhere between 350$ - 700$ max.

What would you recommend ? :)

u can get double that increase with the 1060 from MSI alone. but a 1070 would also still be inside your budget :)

That sounds good, at least 1-2more years squeezed :D

Could you be so kind to share links to both upgrades? Looking for trustworthy sellers. ( i'm from EU )

    Thank you very much :)

As @jaybee83 mentioned, best bet would be something like ebay or here, as you would get a more reasonable price.

As for the stock, I've had contact with 4 different clevo resellers and none had 1070/1080 series cards left. Depending on where you're from have a look at the EU list and perhaps send some emails regarding 1070.

@clevo-extreme I believe GTX 1070 can be ordered on request, ~709€. Perhaps they can hook you up.

a few examples on ebay, although i havent bought from those sellers. but their ratings look pretty solid:

    https://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/New-Nvi...-G2-A1-Graphics-Card-for-Dell-HP/192694490959

    https://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Nvidia-...-G2-A1-Graphics-Card-for-Dell-HP/283219758421

    https://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/For-Del...-MXM-3-0-N17E-G2-A1-Graspic-Card/183544248714

    https://www.ebay.com.sg/itm/Nvidia-...-G2-A1-Graphics-Card-for-Dell-HP/153228808055

thing is, ull need the right vbios to make these cards work properly. with any luck, only driver inf modding will be necessary, worst case black screen upon boot. maybe try and contact the sellers to ask for input on this.

heatsink should be fine though, layout is identical to the 900M series :) worst case ull need a copper shim for the gpu die due to differing height, but not sure about that, might be the same...

The 1070 is certainly a nice step up, especially if you get one with a decent VRM ;)

yeah, those black pcb 1070s from ebay are not prone to blow up based on user input so far haha

now planning to start saving up for a quadro P5200, should be about 2x performance vs. my current 980M :) plus the non-standard layout and only about 25% perf boost of the new quadro rtx 5000 mobile vs. the P5200 does not really make it a good option in my case...

    Hello guys,

Thank you very much for the shared links.
In the coming weeks/months i'll be buying one of the mentioned cards of course before I speak with the seller.
Regarding the quadro P5200, is it worth it ? Does the performance increase justify the insane price over the 1070 ?

Haha nope, certainly not. Plus, the 1070 can be overclocked without having to modify the vbios (as would be the case with the P5200). In my case its just a matter of wanting the best that I could possibly squeeze out of my vintage Batman machine ;)

before the quadro rtx was available, prices were around 1100 USD, now they dropped to around 700 USD. good thing is that the P5200 has the standard layout, so no chassis or heatsink mods necessary in my case. plus, lots of sellers offer the cards with eeprom chip soldered on :) at stock, the Px200 series comes without one.

That's a bit more reasonable at least. They have a slightly stricter TDP IIRC, you planning on modding it too?

depends what you mean by modding haha. hard modding not sure, but Prema indicated he could help out in unlocking core overclock. at stock, only mem oc is possible on the mobile quadros iirc. id have to check first what kinda TDP my cooling system would be able to handle. the 980M stays pretty cool in the low to mid 70s at max. load (around 130W), so I gather i could probably do up to 150W or more, as long as the 9900K is not stressed too much at the same time :) so based on that, ill have to check and see how much modding would make sense.

It might need hard modding to up power limits.

well at least all mosfet slots are populated on these cards, no artificial 980M style gimping

The slots were there at least, the extra chips lowered memory stability and increased idle power.

oh really? interesting, so they generated more noise interfering with the memory to gpu core signals? but on the other hand, the extra mosfets surely enhanced core OC headroom.

The benefit is the card would not trip under the heavier loads.

yeah, the dreaded black screen syndrome where even slight overclocks would trip the card, very annoying :(
