    Hey guys !

Just to have a different set of eyes on this,

For a long while now I've had some weird pink artifacts/fireflies showing on screen when watching videos or playing video games. I didn't look too much into it at first and it never got to a critical point where the computer is unusable but I always wondered why this happened in the first place.

This is a PCSpecialist laptop with the following specs :
    MONITOR : Octane Series V : 15,6" IPS 144 Hz 72 % NTSC Full HD (1920 x 1080) + G-Sync
    CPU : Eight Core Intel® Core™ i9-9900K (3,6 GHz) 16 Mb cache
    RAM : 32 Gb Corsair 2666 MHz SODIMM DDR4 (2 x 16 Go)
    GPU : NVIDIA® GeForce® RTX 2080 - 8 Go GDDR6 RAM - DirectX® 12.1

Contacted PCS and they think the GPU is faulty here, but didn't agree to send me a replacement GPU via mail because it's "too fragile". Do you think it's legit or more related to the ongoing shortage of chips ?
My warranty for replacement parts is still active until December 2021.

I did repaste both CPU and GPU a few weeks ago because the GPU would reach 86°C on games like Final Fantasy XIV, which never happened before. I also undervolted it a long time ago with 2 presets (1380MHz base clock and 1590MHz boost clock as per 2080 Mobile specs). CPU was also undervolted pretty much from the start and never showed any temperature issues.

These artifacts are not always showing though, only in certain situations (YouTube videos, FL Studio, some games). I'm puzzled as to why this is happening, the laptop is fairly recent (December 2019) but I think I've seen these pretty much from the start, they're just a bit worse today. From time to time, the screen would also go black for a few short seconds and go back to normal, with the famous disconnection sound from Windows.

What do you guys think ?
Thanks for reading and giving me your insight on this !

The GPU/VRAM is faulty, and it will get worst, go for your warranty for replacement parts when you still can.

    Sanity check: any VRAM overclocking?

Appreciate the reply man, I think I'll have to do that eventually. The PCS support did say their repair team was very far behind and it would take a minimum of 5 weeks to get sent back to me. I'm kinda mad they just refused to send me the MXM card via mail, it would've been so much easier that way. No computer for that amount of time when it's your main working tool really hurts.

Nope, no overclocking whatsoever as it would immediatly void my warranty. It's not allowed by PC Specialist.
    Only undervolting/underclocking.

Those cards are fragile and expensive.

I can definitely understand that, especially in these times, but I think we're able to pack very sensitive electronics pretty well nowadays.
They don't want to take any chances and I can understand why. It's just going to be hard waiting for 5+ weeks ! :)

It's not just shipping but a lot of people break them installing them.

It's a significant risk is all so I can understand the shop being hesitant.

Given the price of MXM cards in general, especially the 2080, I can see why they wouldn't.
I'll wait for 1-2 months and send it back, hopefully their repair team will catch up so I won't have to wait for too long.
