    Clevo P775DM3 Temps!

    Which parts will give me lower temps including overall temps?

    CPU - I7-6700 or I7-6700k?
    GPU - 1070 or 1080?

    I plan on getting a 120hz screen with it solely to avoid screen tearing, so reaching 120fps in every game I play isn't a priority.

    I'll get a fan for it if I buy it.

    1070 should give lower temps than the 1080 since the 1080 consumes about 30 watts more power. I7-6700 should also give slightly lower temps thanks to the lower clock speed. But I'd urge you to get the 6700k so you can undervolt it (much better temps)

    Definitely the 6700 with 1070 is the lower temp option. I'm still trying to find out clear numbers on what the temps actually would be as an apples and apples comparison... also fan noise.

    Right now i'm definitely getting the 6700k as that's the only option from my reseller but still considering both the 1070 or potentially 1080. Temps and fan noise are a big consideration for me however. I've been seeing lots of feedback that the p775dm body is simply too small to manage the 1080 properly and it results in throttling, excessive noise and heat.

    Given that i'm pretty confident i'm leaning towards the 1070 even though i'll be matching it with a 1440p 120hz screen and VR (which the 1080 will give a longer life to).

    6700 won't boost past 3.7GHz on 4 cores, therefore will produce less heat. You can underclock the 6700K anyway so it's a pointless decision.
    1070 has about 4/5 of the cores of the 1080, therefore will run cooler by a decent margin.

    I would not suggest a 1080 in the P775DM3; I would suggest single 1080 in the P870DM2 instead and use a single 330W brick with the system. The cooling system of the P775DM3 is not capable of supporting a 6700(K) + a 1080 without significant modding, that I've seen, so I won't recommend it easily. The 1080 in the P870DM2 will likely run cooler than the 1070 in the P775DM3, due to a massively larger heatsink, more fans, and a dual-fan solution for the GPU alone as opposed to the dual-fan solution cooling both CPU & GPU in the P775DM3. The P870DM2 needs some slight modding too, I'd say, mind. But in that case, it's just getting a delid + using liquid ultra on the CPU (not hard; and some rebranders like HIDevolution offer it as an albeit somewhat expensive service; about $250 in total to select CLU & delid) and maybe extra thermal pads on the heatsink for the GPU.

    You could honestly just enable gsync or plain old vsync on any game without 120Hz... you should also note that achieving over 120fps in a game (rather easy with a 1080 in most titles except VERY new ones) will introduce tearing. In fact, tearing occurs all the time when fullscreen unless vsynced or using gsync. Even below your target refresh rate. It's just less apparent at higher refresh rates. As far as I can tell, the 1440p 120Hz is probably the best screen since the 1080p 120Hz IPS is now being rumored to be 25ms response time instead of 5ms as originally advertised.

    A what? A cooling fan? Won't do much unless you modify it. A notepal U3 modified with three 120mm desktop case fans and a controller attached might help push more air in. Anything else is probably not going to grant any more benefit than simply propping the back of the laptop up (folded toilet paper blocks under the laptop's feet is a cheap way to do this; I've heard of bottlecaps being used too).

    Wat. The 1080's wattage is scale-able to the manufacturer. Clevos are 190W as far as I know, so it's likely easily more than 30W extra. But the primary reason would be its core count being 25% larger.

    6700 can be undervolted just like the 6700K... I have no idea what you're talking about here.

    6700K + 1080 and some good thermal paste and pads and you'll be fine..

    Even slowing down a bit for temps (which pascal does gracefully) the 1080 would out pace the 1070.
