So, my reseller should have MXM RTX 3080 on hand soon. I want to buy one for my Clevo P775TM1.

I currently have GTX 1080 150W+, and I know that RTX 2080 also works with this Clevo, so technically RTX 3080 should be compatible as well.

But I wanted to ask here to be sure - I heard some people having to use custom BIOS and Heatsink with some other Clevo laptop. Does anyone know how that'd look with Clevo P775TM1? Last thing I want to do is spend money on GPU that I'll have trouble getting to work.

From what I saw, the 30xx cards will need a different heatsink - The X-spreader is significantly larger, and won't fit the 10xx/20xx heatsinks.

But I'm sure AliExpress will have aftermarket heatsinks soon enough.

Interesting. I might also ask my reseller whether they can also send me the heatsink if it's different - they should have it, and maybe selling one won't be a big deal for them (since they sell GPU anyway).
As long as the heatsink fits P775TM1, it shouldn't be an issue, I think. But definitely worth knowing that either way.

    If/when there'll be un/official BIOS support.

It is almost certain that there will be no heatsink from Clevo that fits, it will have to be some kind of modification to the existing heatsink or an aftermarket solution.

And please let us know the price that your reseller asks for the 3070 and the 3080 if that's possible.

The only chance would be if someone made an adaptor system.

@Meaker@Sager A universal MXM-capable heatsink would only exist in my dreams, and nothing for the laptop space, but for true desktop replacement.

More for this specific case, laptops really don't universal heatsinks, not without them all being limited in some way.

My reseller said 30xx series won't be officially available for this Clevo, which is actually no surprise now.
What is a surprise is the price they offered me for upgrade to RTX 2080 instead. It's over 1k GBP. With that price in mind, it is better to just get a new Clevo that supports RTX 3080 natively (and better CPU and displays while at it, too). And this is what I'm considering doing soon-ish.

Yes, this has been the issue with mxm upgradeability: very good in theory, too costly in practice.

Yeah the 2xxx series was always expensive even for MXM.

rtx 3080 is on sale in russia, only the price is $ 1930. Under the order RTX3080 16gb video card for Clevo laptops, the quantity is limited. Works in p775DM2-3 \ TM and p870DM \ KM \ TM laptops with a radiator modification and a modified driver.

as far as I can see, the location of the bracket has changed, the attachment to the chassis remains the same.

That's the big issue, changing the heatsink mount location.

wow damn, $1930 is the price on sale? I remember with m18x days dual AMD graphics in xfire are $600 from dell and its actually of the better pricing even compare to 3rd party/ebay. then dual nvidia cards are around $1200-$1300 from Dell.

now we have only price gauge.

I didn’t ask for a discount, this is not a store. I wanted to update several of my laptops, I’ll wait for the price drop.

Well my p870 heatsink is on the way. Bit you'll need a heatsink to go to 30xx series.
