    Hey Notebook Gurus
Just curious if anyone has a P775dm-g with a Samsung 950 pro ssd... I am wondering if the heat is causing any noticeable throttling in the drive. The reviews all say that heat causes throttling, often sooner and more frequently than expected. I assume this would be worse in a notebook with the general strain on the cooling system.

    Thanks
    Isaac

@Isaac1980 - Heat can cause throttling, though it's not always the cause. We don't really see it happen on this system. It was more prevalent in the P650xx/P670xx models, but has since improved.

The drive throttling tends to only occur with prolonged large transfers. The P700 series is slightly better in general as they have more space around the drive for air flow.

If you're paranoid, you can get a heatsink for it or wait for the new drives to come out where they apparently solved that issue.

They have to get really hot to throttle from what I've seen, like way hotter than you're likely to experience in day to day operation.

I want to say 80 C is the threshold; higher than that and it could happen. Large file transfers are enough to do it, but in a lot of scenarios it won't reach those limits.

Considering how fast those transfers are they have to be REALLY large files from a fast source.
