So I stumbled upon some fans for the P870DM3 laptops that looked a tad different compared to the usual ADDA fans found in clevo

I then compared them to the ADDA ones (seen below) and the new ones by YingWeiTai seem to have more fins - 19 compared to 13 on ADDA. Also they are advertising 30 dba, but I think we can all take that with a grain of salt.

I was wondering if having more fins would mean better cooling?

    EDIT:
Preliminary research on fans with regards to higher number of fins seem to indicate better CFM and better acoustics, but this is just from me reading blogs and forums.

Nice finding, but did you tested it yet?

No, I have not. I was wondering if others know from experience that having more fins on fans will give better cooling and acoustics before pulling the money trigger.

If more research shows that it's worth it, then I might go for it. Since this is Alibaba, will take some time before I can get it and test it.

Hope you get a chance to test, I'd be interested to see the results.

If it goes well for the p870 I might pick up a pair for my p750. Very interested to see where this goes.

Well, the fans are $32 each, and my PA70HS-G has 3, so not a cost-effective proposal.

It’s a lot better than the $66 Eurocom charges for each stock replacement fan.

Hard to read the label and I don't have (and cbf tbh) the service manuals to check the part number but I think they're stock 5V fans from P750DM / P870DM

DM2/DM3 shifted to 12V fans which would blow them when the mobo tried to send that much

And maybe they are 30dba when off lol. DM3 fans at full bore are over 50, not physically possible these push more air while being over 100x quieter...

That listing looks completely borked, caveat emptor

yeah, i did some picture comparison, and I think it is in fact the P750DM/ old P870DM fans

they're even more expensive on eBay for some reason. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-f...834325&hash=item25f294aacb:g:4zQAAOSwWGxaxsJt

The number of fins is going to change the pressure optimisation. More fins will give less airflow in mid to low resistance circumstances usually.
