Clevo P955ET P955ET-1 Samsung 970 Plus m.2 SSD

Hello all.

I am hoping I might find some help with getting my new Samsung 970 EVO Plus 1TB drive working with existing Windows 10 installation,

This has been a good laptop. Support has been unresponsive from the vendor AVA Direct, so far.

The drive is installed, Samsung NVMe driver is installed. The m.2 drive is listed in Device Manager, as is the Samsung NVMe driver (controller device).

The drive does not appear under Drive Manager.

The Samsung Migration Software does not see the 'destination' SSD Drive.

After speaking with Samsung, they said I apparently have the latest versions, and things are installed correctly.

The BIOS in this laptop are a little strange and limited based on my past experience.

Under SATA settings I have only AHCI, or Intel Rapid...Optane (RST), I selected RST as last resort, and it failed to boot. I don't seem to have a list of devices I can boot from. I tried to load up Paragon 14 on external CD-ROM but Win 7 lite freezes on load. Maybe bad drive?

Any help on known compatibility? BIOS revisions? Clevo info is like non-existant. Awaiting AVA still.
Are there custom BIOS options?

All in all this is great laptop except for the slow drive. It's 6-core, with Quadro 3200 GPU.

 

Have you checked if it appears in disk management for the initial format?

 

The Samsung drive does not appear under Drive/Disk Manager. (Windows 10 partitioning app)

 

I'd try a 3rd Party partitioner, like EaseUS.

 

If you switch to RST and boot an installer does it see the SSD?

 

Thank you for the suggestion. I was just thinking to try that. This is a work laptop, but my personal one. I have tried enabling Intel RST. I have selected USB, as boot, and booted to a Windows 10 setup ISO. I grabbed the Intel RST Driver, and loaded it in setup. Refreshed list of drives, only one drive (the Hybrid Hard Disk -old drive) shows. Drive 0: and all of it's partitions. I repeated this a few times. The Samsung drive was not listed. It displays in BIOS as PCIE V1.0? I thought this was Gen 3.0? This BIOS is very odd to me. If I enable Intel RST, the Hybrid drive will not boot, or even look to boot, unless the the 'SATA MODE' is changed back to AHCI.

I'm without an optical drive currently. I was hoping to boot from a thunb drive iso of Paragon Hard Disk manager, but am going to have to try that at home.

I am also going to pull out the m.2 Samsung 970 EVO Plus and install it in my desktop at home. -See i it's actually working.

I found the laptop 'manual.' It merely describes the port as m.2 NVME Gen3 PCIE 4x. Then mentions available Optane drives. I'm curious if I am stuck with an Intel ONLY range drive products.

 

Not intel only for sure, sounds like the drive is having firmware issues.
